hi i just got into quads and had a few questions on how to ride a 6 speed is it like a car or..? for ex. like if your in 3rd gear going around a corner and slow down do you have to downshift to a lower gear or just keep going and give it throttle and how do you shut off quad properly? thank you any help is appreciated

if youre going into a corner you dont want the motor to bog down. you can stay in 3rd and have the tires spinning and slide around a corner and it will be fine but if youre costing around the corner you may need to downshift. if youre in 3 rd gear but going slow around the corner and it feels like its going to stall then you may have to downshift to 2nd. its really all personal preference and you'll get the feel for it after awhile. as for shutting it off just put it in nuetral then turn the kill switch off is what i do because i dont have a key. and i usually turn the fuel off too.

thats what i thought but i just want to make sure before i go messing parts up and everything lol thank you for the help !

also for shifting is it like a car where you have to wait for certain rpms to shiftr or can u just shift fast through gears to get to your deisred gear

Its similar to a car. You don't want to just go from 2nd to 6th in 3 seconds. Its best to wind out every gear. Take each gear to the top of the rpm range then shift or atleast get close. Hopefully that answers your question. Once you ride it enough you'll get a feel for when you should shift and when you can and can't be in a certain gear

All depends on your riding style, me? I usually fly around corners in 4th and its fine, but if its a corner then up hill, you may want to downshift. Blasters are 2 strokes so they work better in the high rpm range. as for being like a car, ya i guess, i mean you want to raise your rpm before you shift, if done right 1st-4th gear will take about 3-4 seconds 5th and 6th take a bit longer. to kill the quad, if your in neutral, just hit the kill switch, if your in gear just squeeze the clutch and kill it. i then leave it in gear most of the time as it acts as a sort of parking brake ;) Welcome to the world of atv's your going to love it.

Be careful leaving it parked in gear though. If its on a hill it can slowly turn the motor over and will slowly work its way forward if you're not paying attention.

If your riding a 2 stroke, Im asuming you are seince your on the blaster forum lol. When shifting its best to wait untill the tops of the RMP range so you hit powerband, but if your just putting around there really inst a reason to pop into power band. Personal preference!

Also, use the clutch! dont just shift or u will wear out the clutch in no time at all
If you do it right it will save your clutch? There is a sweet spot.If you dont get the timming right you will tear up your drive gears.

With the 6 speed there just trying to get the most out of whats really not there.First gear is really just a granny and put put gear.My advice is to start out slow and get the feel of everything and build up your expereince then go big one step at a time.Dont ride outside your limit or you will regret it.I:I

To ride a 2 stroke well, you will have to learn clutch work. 2 strokes have a very light rotating mass, compared to a 4 stroke. This is one of the reasons maintaining RPM's on a 2 stroke is so important. Using the clutch to lighten the load on the engine allows it to stay in the meat of the power band. When riding aggressively, I use the clutch to control speed/power delivery and use the throttle to shift. Say I'm riding out a high speed loggin road. I don't pull in the clutch to up shift through the gears, just crack the throttle a little to free up pressure on the drive line and a bit of up pressure on the shifter takes me smoothly through the gears. NEVER force it to shift, if you have to use more pressure on the shifter than you would with the clutch pulled in you haven't relieved enough pressure from the drive train and forcing it is how you break tranny's and bend shift forks. On the using your clutch to control engine RPM and power delivery. When rolling into a turn, often you need to slow down. Slipping the clutch lets your engine maintain RPM's, slow down and induce tire spin to let the quad slide instead of roll (of course body English must be used). When coming out of the turn, you can slip the clutch to control traction, allowing you to keep the front end down. Always use the clutch to down shift, jamming one down will really mess the tranny up.

The idea of gears it to be able to operate the motor within a range of RPM where it produces good power without labouring or over revving.

If the motors RPM falls below where it will not produce power because of labouring, then change to a lower gear.

If it revs too high ,change up.

The whole idea is to keep the RPM at a point where good usable power is produced.

This has confused me, please explain how something that is not used can wear out.:-/

I very seldom use the clutch, only in heavy going, or getting the revs where I need them do I use it.

I do not recommend that you change without the clutch, until you get really familiar with your bike and learn where changes should be, and at what RPM.
