well i got a newbish question, but is my carb suppose to leak gas out the overflow line after i ride? when i turn it off , i have to turn the gas off to and its gettin annoyin
:-/

Sounds like ether the float needs adjusted or you have some dirt in the float needle seat. Pull the carb and check the float and clean the carb good.

No its not. Usually if youre leaking gas out the overflow its from 1 of 3 things.

1) the float needle sealing area is dirty and it isnt sealing properly, keeping the fuel flowing slowly

2) the float needle is worn out, and isnt sealing properly and you just need a new one

3) the float itself is out of adjustment and is set too high so the fuel level is just above where it should be.

So, pull the bowl off, clean everything out with carb cleaner, pull the float off and inspect the needle, make sure it isnt gummed up, make sure the fuel passage is clean and no debris or whatever in it. If it still does it after you do that, then check the float level. If you set the float level, and you know its on, and it still does it, you prolly need a new float needle.

Edit.. Dakota beat me to it. Damn you Dakota! :p

if you do see any warpage, tears or other ubdesirables on the rubber tip of the float needle, don't try to just buy a new one, a couple different stealerships told me 50-60 bucks, but you get one in the moose rebuild kits on ebay and rmatv for under $20

the float level setting is 20 - 21.5mm measured like this............

the float needle gets adjusted by using a very small straight screwdriver to bend the little tab on the floats that the needle hooks to, bend down in for less fuel level, and up for more

Also this can occur if one of your floats gets a crack in the plastic , fuel over the years is hard on the float material , and if it cracks and the float partially fills with fuel , you will never get the adjustment correct . carefully inspect the floats and make sure they are not cracked , a simple check is to immerse the float in fuel , and look for air bubbles , that will save you some major headaches in the long run.

WTF!!!! Them dealers lost there mind wanting to charge that much.

My dealer told me the same thing. $50 just for a new needle But did the same thing and bought a new rebuild kit for $25. It is for a polaris 400 so thought maybe it was polaris's markup but i guess not.
