i just got a 2003 blaster and it starts right up but wont stay idleing. i have to feather the gas to keep idleing.. it just started doing this.. im not sure what it is. could it be the spark plug or dirty carb? i've messed with the idle screw and it doesnt help.

oh yeah i forgot this too.. my blaster will only run on reserve.. if i put it on "on" it wont run. and i checked the plug a few days ago and it wasnt in tight at all and i took it right out with my fingers. and the guy said it sat for a few months so if that had somethin to do with the carb idk.. and is the screw u adjust under the seat that u have to use a allen wrench with the air? cuz i have the other one on the carb that you use a screw driver with 1.5 turns out.. idk i have it all messed up. i need to know how many turns out for both of them

try filling up the your tank more. thats why it isnt working cause the tanks like 1/4 filled so the RES takes over. it lets you know when your running out of gas so you switch it to reserve. if that dont work filling it all the way up with gas maybe try taking the petcock off and clean the filters.

ya adjust ur dile screw under the seat it will be a big screw and then it help troubleshoot gas only flolwing on reserve i would clean the pitcock

the air screw on the carb only adjusts from idle to about 1/4 throttle.. so while you hold the throttle "steady" , just enough to keep it idling (or have someone help you).... start with your 1 1/2 turn and turn it up to a full turn each direction, listening to the rpm's... keep the screw at the point that makes it rev up the highest. it depends on your mods and jetting... I usually find it at 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 turns out after screwing it all the way in....

I have older models, so I don't have a idle screw in the top of my carb (I don't think lol).... its just the cable adjustments in the top of carb and at the handle....

Once you get your air screw right..... I generally just adjust the idle at the throttle handle on the bars, ... over spin your cable screw a little to keep it running and start it.... screw it back in slowly, popping the throttle every now and then to make sure it is setting back to the same spot until you like it.. and just screw down the round locking nut and your good to go!!! I like this method because you can even do it in the field with no tools! good luck

Fix this problem first. You have dirt or gunk in your tank. The reserve is a stand pipe in your tank. It set up out of the gunk in the bottom where your "on" draws from. Remove the tank and petcock. Spray in a whole can of carb cleaner and shake well.

well could it be dirt in the tank? cuz one day i went muddin in the rain and the next day i ran outta gas and whenever i do that it runs full throttle and sounds like its gonna blow up till it dies. but i opened it up and some dirt fell in the tank. not a whole lot though. it could be something electrical cuz it use to idle if i kept my bars straight but if i would turn them itd die. and does any of your guys' blasters back fire all the time? mine does almost every time i ride it. i dont know why it does it.. im thinking about puttin come seafaom in the tank and see if it helps and a new plug. i turned the idle screw a full turn out more while i feathered the gas and it didnt help at all.

After you clean your tank, take the carb apart and give it a good cleaning. While you have the carb off, pull the reeds add check for a chipped reed & see if they are seating properly. While you have the reeds out might as well take a look at your piston skirt. If you are backfiring all the time you are either super lean, someone has given you a hacked up port job or you have sheered your flywheel key. It could also be your coil, pickup coil or CDI but not likely.

If you say it idled when you kept the bars strate and when you turn them the bike die's then some one did not know what thay were doing because thay set the throttle cable to tight and when you move the handle bars the bike pic's up revs because the cable is getting pulld. you need to set your carb up rite and remember air screw is 1.5-2 turns out and YOU DO NOT SET YOUR IDLEING THERE you set it under the seat or if you have taken the Tors box off and put a nother carb on it is set on the side of the carb normally by a "big" star screw

i rode it for about 3 hours today and it only back fires when its hot and you stall it.. and i picked up a couple plugs today. im gonna put a new one in and get my carb set up right. and check the throttle cable. the carb is pretty much all messed up. the idle screw is set at 1.5 turns out. the other screw i messed with was the one when ur on the left side of the bike and ur lookin at the carb.. theres a screw that you use a flat head to turn. im not sure what it is.. air or fuel? i thought it was idle screw at first because on dirt bikes thats normally where the idle screw is.
