Hey whats good everyone im new to the quad game. I recently just purchased a 2002 Yamaha blaster, so im not really familiar with all the parts and everything. But every time i start the engine im getting white smoke out of the exhaust( I know black smoke is even worse). Is that regular for quads? or am i messing up the mix ratio for oil to gas?(im currently using 32:1 93octane). I also have a problem when the quad is on idle. Some times the engine just revs its self and ends up dying. any help is welcome thanks guys! I:I

From the sound of it, your engine has an air leak. Probably a clutch side crank seal.

You need to build or buy a leakdown tester to find the leak. A member here makes them for a reasonable fee (about the same as what it costs to build one honestly). PM Slickerthanyou about one.

On the brighter side, black smoke is possibly better in the long run, nothing is going to cook from a fuel rich mix.

Welcome to the forum! I just got my leak down tester from slickerthanyou. It is a very nice design. Id highly reconmend buying his. I got mine in like 3 days! Once you get her going you will have a blast.

Welcome to the forum. Is it a lot of smoke or just some? I would take the carb apart and clean it real good. The idle circuit may be partly clogged . The idle increase before it dies sounds just like how it acts when it runs out of fuel.
