Hello everyone!

First, let me say that this is an excellent forum! I love the DIY section and everything is very well written. I am on multiple car forums as I do autocross and tune my car a lot; and I really think that just from reading various threads on this forum you guys have an excellent, knowledgeable enthusiasts site here.

I have a 1995 Blaster that has been sitting in my mothers barn for 8 years. The plastic and everything is near perfect, and there is no rust. However, being in the "time capsule" has caused the motor to seize up and some basic requirements (e.g. suspension component rebuild, new fuel/oil lines, etc).

I have a good idea of what needs to be done, however, if I know more I can make intelligent decisions now before I just do a basic rebuild.

My questions:

1) What are some good places to order parts from?
2) Since I'll be rebuilding it, is there any inexpensive improvements I should do to it during the rebuild?
3) Is there any protips I should know? :)

Thank you!!

rockymountainatvmc.com Is a great place to order from. Cheap parts and good customer service.

If you need oem parts I recommend chaparraledealership.com. They have good prices.

If you want some cheap upgrades while your at it. Get a wiseco piston, their lighter and more reliable. Maybe look around ebay for some cheap banshee front shocks, and if your a bigger guy look for a yfz rear shock. A pipe is your best bang for your buck, but don't mess around with an fmf, DG (never get one), pro circuit ( or toomey for that matter ) unless you can pick up one for really cheap. Also while your at it remove the throttle override system aka tors, it will act up and make your quad run like crap.

Thats all I can think of right now

Excellent! You gave me more info in one post than the hours I searched online! Thank you very much!

I am considering a complete Wiseco bottom end kit and a top end kit (basically, a complete rebuild). And yeah, that is great advise on the shocks. I'll do the engine rebuild, shocks, lines and cables, check brakes and bearings, and finally a chain and I think I'll be all set!

Are there any good DIY for blaster engine rebuilds?? I know I'll have to take it into a shop to get it milled/ported or whatever.

For the piston, I'm thinking about doing 0.08 over. Good idea?

Unless needed 0.08 over is way too much, go with the smallest over bore needed. You gain no power from a bigger piston. You will need to take it to a shop for a bore/hone job but that should be less than $100 it depends on were you live.

Here is a good diy vid thats very helpful

If your looking for more power, go with a Vito's piston.

I don't know why BlasterDude is hating on FMF, pro circuit & Toomey pipes. Those are all good pipes. It depends on what your looking for, I personally like well engineered pipes that are quiet yet produce a good amount of power. Anyone can make a high performance pipe, making a high performance pipe thats quiet.. thats a different story.

Good luck with the build.

hmm Id go with a wiseco forged piston over a vitos.. and dont bore it unless you have to.. usually just a good hone with be good.... because each time you bore.. the cyl is getting one step closer to either needing thrown out.. or resleeved. Oh and as far as upgrades.... GET AN OIL INJECTION BLOCK OFF KIT!! or figure a way to do it yourself.. dont want that busting on you and then having he engine seize all over again.. PREMIX 32oz of oil per 1 gal of gas.. run good 2-stroke oil liek castro.

Hone/Bore to min. replace with wiseco, block off oil, clean carb, mix good gas & oil and see if she runs. If shes just been sitting you probably don't have to mess with the bottom now if ya don't wanna.

Thanks everyone for all the great advise. I will definitely go with STD size boring if I have to, and if I need to work out a little bit after getting it honed, I'll bore over as minimal as possible.

I'm really sorry to sound so stupid, but what is an oil injection block off kit? I think the problem it had before was the oil injector stopped injecting oil which helped it seize.

I assume it is blocks off the injection port? Sorry for being so dumb. Does anyone have a link to buy one?

Thanks!

I'll start the rebuild this weekend and post some pictures for your viewing pleasure since everyone helped me out so much!

Also, in regards to rebuilding the bottom end; What would constitute a need for that? The "transmission?" seemed to work fine before it seized up.

I'm definitely going to rebuild the top end, and get a Wiseco piston. I figure after I take the engine into a shop to have the cyl honed, I'll instruct them to hone it to factory spec if possible, and if a larger bore is needed to bore the cly the minimum amount to get the job done. Afterwards, I'll buy the top end rebuild kit directly from Wiseco which is about $170.

I'll also do the oil injection block, find some banshee suspension parts.

first pull the head off and see whats all wrong
the injection is really easy to remove. Ebay has most of the parts mentioned.
The stock baloon tires suck. i would get some flat track style tires for more stability.

Ok, tomorrow I'm picking up my Blaster, and I'm going to create a "build thread".

If I post some pictures, will you guys (anyone) look at them and let me know if they see anything off the top of their heads that I'll want to replace/remove/upgrade/beat the hell out of/etc?

Also, is there anyone around in SW Missouri here? I would buy someone beer and pizza for some help lol
