06 R6 rear shock??

I have a complete 06 yamaha R6 limited edition that i parted out and still have most parts. i was standing there looking at it and thought hey wtf that rear adjustable shock looks like it could fit my lovely blaster! may raise the rear up a little but ima take it off the swingarm tmrw and see if it matches up. does anyone know anything about this?? im def gonna try it since i already have it. i'll post pics tmrw when i take it off! :D
 
yea itll be stiff im sure but its adjustable so i'll soften it as much as possible. if it even fits. if its TOO stiff i'll cut the spring a very little. its worth a try since im prolly getting a lonestar swinger soon. im just gonna play with it see how it works out.
 
Just measure it eye-eye. BTW, it's a bit tough to get your head around it at first, but cutting a spring INCREASES it's rate (makes it stiffer). The reason for this is because compressing a coil spring is really just twisting a steel wire. If you cut the spring, then for any given compression amount, you are twisting a shorter wire a greater amount.

after my last post i was wondering if it was the other way around. thanks for clearing that up! i did a little research and i think the R6 shock is longer. so since it will be stiffer its prolly only good for like drag or race? its worth a try. but i figured i try this out since im taking off the swingarm anyway for repaint OR hopefully buying this lonestar one.

i am sorry but you are so incorrect.
cutting a spring doesn't do anything to the spring rate.
to change the spring rate, you increase/decrease the amount of turn/inch or increase/decrease the thickness of the spring.
if you cut a spring and stretch it to fit the original length, you make the spring softer. this is a very common mod on carb springs to make then not as stiff.
 
I'll try to may more pics , but your going to have to weld if you do it my way.If your welding to the bike disconnect every wire on the bike...Your going to need 1/4 inch steel and thats about it beside bolts. You can find that at lowes in like three foot pieces ... I drilled about 1 3/8 inch hole or whatever size the top round mounts are . .Then drill a hole in that to the same size bolt that goes threw the r6 spring cause its smaller then than the blasters. Then it gets welded to the bike....For the bottom its going to be harder. the first thing I did was find a set of car door hinge bushings here is the set they have at autozone Door Hinge Bushing Assortment By Dorman - Mills Fleet Farm ......this will go in the stock bottom hole to close it up.I had to enlarge the hole a little tho, then two spacers and that holes done.. Now the hard part is to make a mount to hold the third hole to the swing arm. You can make the mount how you can but its going to be hard to put the bolts into the mount. I had to cut of the heads and put two nuts on either side.....This shock works great in trails too .100% better then stock.. great for jumping two . hey mac, i read the links u listed and u really didnt mention how u mounted the shock on. did u get bushings from ken or what? the shock i have is still on the R6 frame and swingarm. am i gonna need new bushings and such? lmk! i might start this project tmrw
 
Good ..Don't take the bushings off the shock... Just unbolt the shock and the triangle piece. you might be able to reuse the bolts I don't know if they are long enough.
 
oh sh*t thats alotta modding! i thought it'd be easier than that.. idk ima try anyway since im pulling the swinger off. as for welding, idk where to go for that and i personally dont have a torch... looks i might have to get a 400ex since thats a bolt on and go if this doesnt workout for me. i thought i try it bc i have the R6 parts in my yard
 
I welding it but see if you do it with out weld. maybe for the top and bottom hole on the shock you can drill the hole bigger so you can use the blaster bolts. Then you just need washer on both sides to hold it in the middle.... You just have to find a way to get the last hole ...... If you look at that one pic of the shock on the unpainted frame maybe you can drill threw the swing arm and put one long bolt threw it...maybe even use the long piece off the triangle and cut the end off and drill in it then a hole in the middle part of the swig arm. that should work with no welding.
 
you know what man THAT crossed my mind too! wouldnt that be insane to fit that motor on my blaster! only thing i already sold the CPU and exhaust but i still have the complete motor with only 14,000 miles on it. there would be way too much fabbin to fit that motor and thats a SERIOUS project that is outta my knowledge and budget.
as for the R6 shock, i got it off but i cant get that triangle piece off but i got all the bolts. this is a REAL stiff shock. i also bought a 400EX shock off ebay the other day for less than 30 with shipping (hopefully its not blown. he stated in good cond.) and i also ordered the bushings from ken. im gonna do all this in one shot. im gonna try the R6 shock 1st if it doesnt work out i'll throw on the 400. win win situation I:I
