Whats up guys, I'm new to this site as of today...
I've got an 03 blaster that is nearly all stock. I'm plannin on changing that I:I
So far I've got vf3 reeds, 14:40 sprockets, new chain, block off kit, some air flow thing to increase throttle responce, and a couple of misc parts... I want to do a port&polish but I wanna put a bigger badder pipe on it first... just has an fmf. Any ideas on what else I should need to get more power and speed out of this?

Well, I'm planning on doing the port myself and installing everything I've gotten so far myself so... A bigger carb, should I mess with the air intake? i.e bigger airbox/ filter?

your going to port it yourself do you know what you are doing????? you can get a cfm airbox off ebay or run a pod filter

Lmao, No I don't know what I'm doing, but my dad knows just about all there is about vehicles... He's been a mechanic for 40 years. He's got all the tools to do it, so sh*t, might as well... He's done plenty of project cars he ports&polishes... But yeah, I'm really unfamiliar with quads in general. This is the first one I've ever owned, just bought a Polaris Predator so I can bring someone with to go riding with me...
Anything else I should be getting to up the power? :)

my opinion on pipes are toomey or the power pro's ones.......
factory 7, dyno port or an lrd, and yes do at least a uni filter and/or an airbox, <<cfm or project blaster and a 34 or 35mm carb as stated by my brother above,
and btw whats this....."some air flow thing to increase throttle responce", explain?????

there is alot more to porting then just taking a dremal to it.....whatever floats ur boat man...talk to a builder on here about getting a port done....kennedy power, wild card or flotek

The airflow thing to increase throttle responce is a lil circular peice of metal that slides into your intake and it increases airflow and spins it at the same time, which helps combustion, in return increased throttle responce. Anyways, yeah I'll check up with some of the guys here to see what they think about porting my quad my self or having it done. I've already spent about 1k on just motor parts, I don't wanna spend more than the machine is worth so... about 2k is my limit.

Anyways, I think it will be a fun project. I'll keep you guys updated and take some pics of the progress... I think I'm going to keep the body looking stock and just tweak with the engine to get more power and speed out of it... gonna be a sleeper I:I!
Thanks for all the help and info guys.

Well, it was cheap so, I'm gonna give it a try. I did a bit of research a while back about it and it does seem to help throttle responce just a bit, but I'm just thinking every little bit helps. I'm hoping I can get it topping out at 75-80mph...

What's this stroker kit thing about? I've seen some posts about it but I don't really understand what it is, care to explain?

your not going to go 80mph.....you can have all the power in the world but your not going to get 80 with the gearing

Agreed. no 80mph's for you. If you have 2k to spend, i would honestly just send your topend out to a builder and let them port and polish for you. Have them p&p, and machine your head. If you have a stock bore maybe go .10 over. It'll probly run you less than 400 bucks, and itll be a proven increase. the leftover 1600, invest in the mods stated; airbox, intake, pipe, carbs..etc. Also, dont forget about your suspension. Stock is rough. You could easily pick up a set of works dual rates for 400. Its not just about speed, as blasters are prone to rolling.... Maybe spend $100 of that on a banshee axle to make it wider, and a/m arms, or front wheel spacers(no groans, i know people shun spacers). Make your bike a well rounded machine.

edit: just A carb, forgot we werent talkin shee's!

Before you do anything with porting get a pipe, its a cool thing to learn on your own but unless you have read up on it and understand it your not gonna have success... I've been researching for the last year and 1/4 of it still goes right over my head.
The best all around pipe you can get is a power pros, its been poven time and time again for years ( they also go by the name ct,f7, trinity, hetrick, and wicked ).
The stroker crank comes in 3 sizes, a +3 from vitos and a +4 from hot rods and a +6 but they suck ( they build up a ton of heat and don't make enough hp to justifiy the price ), the +3 doesn't require case trenching and comes with a spacer plate, is a cheaper option all a round. When its properly set up ( you have to move the ports up ) it will add more midrange power and when its really set up with porting a 34-36mm carb, lightend flywheel, redesigned head, high comp ( and don't forget a good pipe ) you will have a kickass small bore, and if you get a big bore kit later on you will have even more balls.
What size tires are you running with the 14:40 gearing? With my 18"s its perfect but anything bigger and you really need more mods to pull it, not that it wont but it will be sluggish.

Yo man welcome to the forum! were in ak are you? I'm in north pole

if you plan on doing a stroker crank you should do it before a port job. all your port timing will be off if you port for a stock stroke then add a stroker crank. 3mm strokers dont require trechning. what that means is that the crank has a certain amount of throw (distance it requires for the crank to spin a full rotation) when adding a stroker crank you have to make room for this if its a +4 or bigger. what they do is trench or cut the cases to make room for the crank to spin without the bottom of the rod, or any part of teh crank hitting....

it will be tough to get 80, if you ever do. i have a pretty modified banshee and it gets just over 80.

best ways to gain power...porting, bigger carb, pod filter, stroker crank, big bore kit, cut or rechambered head, reeds, and pipe. somethings you have to do to adjust for the other....just as porting you need a bigger carb and pipe to maximize performance. headwork will make it even better.....

doing portwork yourself is risky..there are a lot of factors that make a portjob good or bad, or even workable...different angles, port timing, durations, transfer size....theres a ton of info....thats why most everybody just lets the guys who have done research and r&d to do it the right way. a 2 stroke engine is different from a car engine....seeing as a car has a 4 stroke engine. you will soon discover this.....but hey, its your bike....

you can easily take 2k and have a great quad, dont buy everything new for one....

you can also fin a set of wroks fronts for WAY cheaper than $400..you can buy new for $400.....most used sets run around 200-250.....or you can buy banshee shocks for the front a 400ex or trx250r shock for the rear banshee axle to make it wider in the rear.....2k is a lot to work with....

400 was a cap....and if you ever plan on seeing water, or mud, pods arent going to work for you, unless you have some sort of airbox or covering. just my .2.
