XChat is an IRC chat program for both Linux and Windows. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible.
heres what one site says about IRC, seems they can even download files to each other?

great, cause i was just lookin again, and there was about 4-5 of them on here, they all have gibberish names, and never look at any threads, and they all also have that IRC crp, can't we delete the ability to have istant messengers on here ???
or they're just gonna come back under different names ????
