I need some help but first here an update:
rear end is coming along, about 14 5/8 inches of travel. Using a 18.75 inch preditor fox shock. +4 swinger, custom shock mount.
Going to use a tusk axle with extended hubs for 50 inches wide in the rear.
Front end is going custom made by kael zoglmann. 50 inches wide with 4-1 wheels. +2 forward in wheelbase. Using 18.75 can am ds450 shocks. Target travel is 11-13
And yes… doing the math +6 on wheelbase 49 inches long… 50 inches wide…. Wider than it is long should make for some good cornering characteristics.
Here’s where I need some help…
The machine is going to be desert raced… Iv been told by many people a yz250 swap will not hold up to a 300 mile race… it will vibrate the frame apart.
Gotta find somthing smooth or counterbalanced.
No 4 strokes!
Trx250r engines are too damn expensive.
Quadracer engines where dogs, 250cc making 26hp on a good day… might as well just port a blaster.
Quadzilla engines are also too expensive
So… looks like I’m going the non counter balanced route.
Iv been told a 250 2 stroke will vibrate too much and I’ll be repairing frames every year.
So… I guess I’m going smaller
Dt200s are too hard to get.
Iv been looking at kdx200s. I can pick them up for around 800$ in beat condition.
Anyone have experience with them? Are those engines any better than a 250 as far as vibrations??
Iv heard a piped, kdx200 with porting and head mods is low 40s hp. Plenty for desert racing.
Any tricks I can do to make a non counter balanced 2 stroke vibrate less??
I’m going to call on the in house yz swap specalist Otis… how’s the vibrations in yours? How many hours do you have? Any frame repairs?
If anyone has a dirt bike swapped blaster please say what is in it, how many hours, and if you had to do frame repair.
