I'm wondering how to tell what year a motor is. I got a 2002 blaster with a new "MYSTERY" motor lol. rep given for good help!

Huh, I don't know if they have a VIN stamped in them like auto engines, but about the only thing that really matters is whether it is an 88-02 or 03+. The 88-02s had a four wire stator while the 03+ have a five wire stator.
There are numbers stamped on on side of the cases ex:3MJXX-XXXX-XXXXX. I have to try and find the info that tells ya what year range that is Damn can't remember where i seen it.
just find the number slick stated above and find an atv vin decoder, there are a couple on the site somewhere and your answer should come up
AHH I seen them in the blaster parts manual CD I have It goes from 91-06 only so tell me what the first 4 number letter config is on the case half flywheel side
