Well, some serious winter is coming in a week or so with about 12 days straight of snow in the forecast, so I traded my 1987 honda 350 for this 1996 yamaha vmax 600, its absolutely beautiful condition, 5100 miles since new. Got some little bonuses like electric start and heated hand grips. From what I read, it has 94.1hp on a dyno test and should get up to around 110mph. Everything works perfect on it. I've never owned a yamaha sled before, so I can't wait to go bomb some fields and roads on it in this big snow storm and see for real what it can do.

And yes, I know, only usable for a bit of the year blah blah blah blah....

Give it another month, hopefully it will get colder. I am picking up an 85 Polaris Indy 440 for 50 bucks not running. It better snow soon!

yea man, my dad used to have a polaris indy 600 triple, they make kick ass sleds, how much work does yours need?

Last winter here was amazing, around 1 foot of new snow every week, this winter I haven't even seen the ground be covered yet.

He said that last time he ride it, last year, one of the pistons lost compression while he was riding in the field. It turns over and has decent compression in one cylinder. Sounds like a boring job might need to happen with new piston and rings. Here it is:
1985 POLARIS INDY SS 440

One foot of snow a week! That's heaven for a snowmobile! Sure wish it snowed like that in the states. Lucky man!

pop that top end off and get in there, it might just be rings but if it is blown or scored the cylinder walls just buy a used top end and get riding.

Yea but that was last winter, and I was stuck on a sh*tty 250cc sled after I wrecked my ski doo 377. I may just go on a little 2.5 hour trek north to where there is snow to go riding for a day if I can get my friends on board.

That's the plan. I can't find very many used parts for this sled though, or even new parts for that matter. I have found a few new oversized top ends though.

Road trip! haha It's always a fun time with a few buds.

i just bought my 1999 Skidoo MXZ 583 this year to and no snow. this sucks!!

Ya winter this year is horrible I'm complaining but not! I'd rather have snow than rain!

Is it not advisable to run them in mud? Just curious!

the bearings on sleds require snow to stay cool or they seize up, and the motors are tuned to run very cold or they run really rich.

Snow storm on new years eve will change the course of this winter hopefully!!
