wont stay in 5th

hmm thats weird. does it do it in 6th or any other gear sometimes? take off the clutch cover and see if somethings up with the star gear. not a high chance but a point on the star gear could be broken off and it might be slipping off into 4th because it doesnt have a deep enough spot to sit in 5th

nope just 5th.

thats probably it, idk ill check it out tomorrow

thanks alot

it sounds like its popping out of gear.
your dog teeth may be rounded.
have you been shifting without the clutch? is your clutch engaging properly?

well, shift forks get bent (usually it's second gear that this happens to) because of slamming the gears. if you slam it into 5th a lot then fork could get bent, but like i said, that's worst case, very unlikely.
i think flushing the tranny oil is def a good idea. you might have a piece of gunk stuck in the drum not letting the fork move into position properly.
i don't think this is symptomatic of damaged shafts or cogs because you didn't say anything about strange bumpiness or vibrations in that gear.

it could be anytin like..
worn shift fork
worn shift cam grove
worn gear dog???
hopefully it is jus sum crap in the oil!!
dese are all jus guesses no1 can no for sure without taken it apart
