why?

Quads aren't considered closed course race machines so if they don't meet the epa emission laws then they can't be sold in the u.s.
Ding ding diiinnggg winner!! thats why bikes can still be made and quads can't. But in truth thats just a lame excuse for them to make 4stroke becuase they make more money that way, sleds and pwc's are under the same laws and pass the epa with flying colors!

but did you notice pwc and sleds are going 4 stroke??? and making big big power!!! look at the artic cat 4 stroke turbo sled.... or the apex, and the new rush

also look at the oils made for boats and pwc's there a 2 stroke oil BUT there wayyyy cleaner burning, no soot no smoke or minimal, no ash, and minimal contaminants... in all honesty if EVERYONE ran a stynetic clean burn like techniplate or pro honda hp2 we would still have 2 strokes

Very true, and thats great... 4strokes are better for cold weather anyways, but there's more money involved for the manufactures and just like what happened to bikes a few years ago will happen ~and is~ there also. The one thing I dislike about 4stroke sleds are the weight, I have a friend who has a badass 08 1200cc ski-doo 4stroke the damn thing sounds like a Harley! But its soo freaking heavy! I would never want to take that in deep powder or at least have to stop in it. But of course new technology will take over and the weight problems will go away just like it has with bikes, and in some ways help keep them planted in the turns like modern sport quads. I just hate to see them go because of a bs reason for them to make more money faster, newer tech is also there to make 2strokes even better.... they just won't use it.
It all comes down to money is what I'm trying to say.

Emissions my a**! Look at the summit in Copenhagen. I Read some where that with all the limos and personel jet traffic, they are actually putting out more emissions than thirty countries put together. I do think that we need to be responsible with our resources but these fricken idiots in charge are going to burn the planet right out from under us.

4 stroke sleds making big power lmao im a 4 stroke owner and they yamaha nytro 130hp motor is 1100cc i belive and it is places in a 600cc-700cc 2 stroke class and the apex is also that 1100cc motor and it competes with the skidoo 800r 2 stroke............the 4 strokes need alot more to get the power to them and they weight a lot more so its not worth it in 2 factors and the polaris rush is a 2 stroke and this new etec motor is gonna take over the 4 strokes for many years in snowmobiling cause the curret 800r skidoo most oil burning one meets the epa leveals to 2012

i dont think its all about emmisions as much as its about he money being made off of four strokes. im mean sure the tech is gettin better on them and they have good reliability, but as soon as it breaks thats when it kills the average person who knows nuthing but to take back to the dealership and pay $70/hr plus a storage fee and the parts. thats why i see more four strokes siting in peoples sheds and back yards in pieces cause the cant afford to fix them and they are still paying the note on it. im not bashing it by no means im just saying they're not the greatest for the average person who comes in and wants one you may as well buy a motorcycle for the prices they go for now.
