What does it take to have a fun ridable blaster on the sand dunes? Silver Lake if that matters. Paddle tires Im sure. But will a stock blaster run good in the sand? I read someplace that a stock machine dont do to well.I want the min. mods needed. I know I can build the crap out of it and have a blast. But thats not in the plans.

I would get out and ride it before you do anything. Paddles are pretty much a requirement, but go out and get a feeling for it, then as mentioned hit it with some porting and a pipe for starters.

You could do the open air box. You can stretch aome woman's pantyhose across the top of the air box to help it from loading up with sand. Get the larges size. You can tie each leg in a knot and trim it off. It's like a cheap outerwear. You can also try the plus 4 timing mod. Make sure you rejet with the lid off.

Pipe mild porting an paddles.

I agree with 95. Speaking from experience, just opening up the airbox and adding a pipe won't be enough power to really enjoy big sand. I'd only take a ported Blaster to ride serious sand.....and if you're gonna port & pipe, you really should get a bigger carb too.

Let us know which way you decide to go.

It looks like we wont be going to any sand rides too soon!Gonna need some more money before we try

My blaster tore up the dunes in Florence , all I did was a fresh top end , pod filter , rejetted for my Fatty and PC2 . My little bike could climb everything the bigger bikes could . You gotta KNOW how to ride . Paddles aren't always a must at the dunes . If you are out on hard pack or running trails ( not super deep ) then dirt tires will work .
But a set of paddles makes it a lot easier . You lose top speed with paddles on , but they come in handy for steep climbs and side hilling.

I have family in florence and have rode the dunes for many years... I have everything from a stock, underpowered, worn out bike with bald mud tires to a race ready banshee. If you're in it to win every race on the sand you'll not be happy. But if your just in it for fun, as I was, you'll have a good time. Like I said just get out and ride it, mods can come later :)

Just my two cents, FWIW, the other mods mentioned are great.
