whats a power band?

heres a few simple details put together

Powerband is simply the band of revs where the engine produces the most power. Nothing more than that. In some high performance two strokes it feels like something extra "kicking in" but it is just the characteristics of the engine.
It is the "usable" rpm range between idle and redline of ANY motor. A 2 stroke offten will not make a whole lot of power from idle until say 70% of redline, thus making the last 30% of the rpms to redline: a very narrow powerband.
Say idle is 1000 rpm and redline is 10,000 rpm and there is little power from 1000 to 7,000 rpm, but plenty from 7,000 to 10,000 rpm. Then that is a powerband 3000 rpm wide and starts at 7,000rpm.
It is not a physical part on the bike. It is merely a descriptive term used to describe where in the RPM range the bike produces the most useable power. Some people confuse this term with "power vlave" which is a working part on the bike, and to add even more confusion the power valve helps to widen the power band.
the powerband can be altered by changing the engine ports, powervalve and reeds etc...the blaster doesnt have a powervalve but my yz250 does and with sum valve mods i can alter the way the engine revs out thus changing the powerband

nice dude u really sum things up for me lol. i would like a port job on mine and new exhaust. because im 6 3 and 290 and my blaster will hardly tought my big ass lmfao...

i had a topend rebild .030 over vforce 3 reeds and spacer. new stator and flywheel, 34mm carb. oh by the way im havinh trouble fitting up the carb to the air box boot

i was typing in my last comment at the same time as you !! the blaster doesnt have a powervalve but my yz250 does and with sum valve mods i can alter the way the engine revs out thus changing the powerband .
you can do the same thing on a blaster by having some good portwork done. and since your already bored over you may wanna have some headwork done as well, a good mill job really isnt all that expensive and will give you very noticable results..more compression is the number one thing you wanna achieve. portwork will change your powerband( engine characteristics) with that carburator you may need to buy a different carb boot(adapter) to make it fit. the stock may be too small to stretch over your new carb.
your off to a good start with your reeds, carb and bore job !!!!

what exactly will they do port work and head job? what do u think the average cost will be?

to go a little farther...remember that everything on a bike/quad works as a system...just changing your gears, chain tension, pipe(expansion chamber) , all alters the way your engine is gonna feel and behave..there is sooo much you can do to achieve different results on a two stroke. im not sur ehow far into modding you have gone on bikes or how much your interested in it........

i have had more work then that like vitos oil block, new bumper brake lines lugs clutch plates rear end nes chain and sprockets new gas cap and more and it ends up costing some money man

this is my first bike man and it was a peice of s**t when i first got it but now its pretty fast on the start. but i want lots more bro. i wanna fly I:I. i want it to run like a scalded cat bro!

my portwork cost me a few hundred and around a hundred for the head work..so figure $300 or so for some good engine work(not including crank and piston work)..theres allot of builders on here you can talk to (flotek, kenedy etc..) im lucky to live near a good builder and had work done reasonably with no shipping..some builders will do it even cheaper

ok thats cool. i had someone do my work and he lives right down the road from me. i tryed getting ahold to him lately and he want answer my calls. u think he maybe tired of doing it lol?!
oh i have those pics sent to u. hope they do justice.

Hello,
Can you explain what is being done when your head is being ported and what else might be done to improve longevity and performance while doing a piston replacement. Ive got my blaster stripped to nuts and bolts being powder coated. Ordered in a wiseco .040, V3 reeds, sprocket and chain set and Ive piped it. What is common to do?
Thank you for your information
Hank

if you are referring to him boring it over .030 giving horsepower, you need to think again...all he is doing with boring it .030 over is losing life on the cylinder, and having a cylinder bored over makes the bike run hotter at the same time, you want power get a port/polish and have the head done and the combustion/squsih band clearance done, wildcard i would reccomend because he did mine
