What to look for when buying an 85-86 lt250r quadracer?

I'm thinking about picking one up as a project over the winter. What are things to look for? just the regular maintenance and running cond, or should I be looking for anything specific?

I've read that the ideal years for those is 87 and up, can't remember all the reasons though. Others that are more familiar with them can elaborate.

Yes they did. I'd like to buy an 85-86 since I can pick one up for cheap.

Honestly id look for a cheap 250r instead,only suzuki's i like are the rm 125's and 450r's and z400's.

Werent them bikes really problemmatic?

Look the swingarm over real good. They were known to crack around the bearing carrier. The upper shock mounts were also another weak point to keep an eye on. Other then that, there a pretty good machine. There getting really old and parts are becoming more difficult to find though.

check the intake(not the airbox) for dirt, its a good indicator of how well maintained the bike was, if thers dirt in the intake then theres dirt in the carb and the engine too :O

aren't the circlips a big issue too? They fall out or whatever and trash your whole engine.
