what ratio should i run

Is it a good idea to run slightly higher ratio for break in? I was thinking 20:1 for its first tank on a fresh top end but I had heard of people even going to 16:1 and having good results. Let me know what you think.

It depends on your oil mainly. If you are using a higher quality synthetic then go with 40:1 but no less. If you are using a slightly worst oil use 32:1 but no less oil there either. That is the most safe and keeps your top end in the best shape as well as keeps everything else oiled well.

Do NOT run really mixtures like 100:1 to try and get more power. There have been a ton of studies that show that it actually decreases the amount of compression you get lower your power. But at the same time running too rich bogs it down. Best always to run a tad rich though, just to be safe and keep everything running well.

no, your supposed to run the same mixture during break in that your going to run after break in. its not like the engine knows "oh i am in break in mode right now I want 20:1 mixture" It only cares if it is getting gas and oil. So 32:1 during break in should do fine.

Im just throwing this out there: Honda hp2 oil is really good, just changed my top end and the old piston looked really good, and they recomend running 32:1 but i ran 40:1.

honda hp2 and respoil is all I run in my bikes...........maybe yamalube everyonce in a while but I just think the honda bassed oils work the best

Thank you, I appreciate your insight. I understand the engine doesn't think about the ratio or have a break in mood, my question was more aimed at the idea that many 2 strokes that I've owned, from weed trimmers to outboard motors, require that you double the mix for the first tank of gas on a fresh motor. Some oil injected motors even suggest that you pre-mix the first tank in addition to the oil supplied by the injector. The intention is to increase lubrication and reduce the risk of damage during this critical high-friction period.

Since such a procedure is not explicitly mentioned in the owner's manual, I decided to inquire for suggestions on here, I apologize if this question appeared novice to you. Thanks for the help!
