back in december of 2011 I purchased a 1995 ford ranger for $750, immediately after my purchase it started to surface problems until it was so bad I got rid of it for a dirt bike, a few weeks ago I shelled out $1600 for a 1996 ford ranger in mint condition and with every feature you could include at the time it was made, it drove great, I never found a problem with it driving around, until I took it for its safety test today to get actual plates for it.

the trip to the shop didn't end well, the list of shotty repairs and covered up problems was extensive, it will cost me $3500-$4000 to get it fixed. I could type out the list the shop gave me but I just don't want to.

Safe to say I got f*cked a second time. I don't know where to go now. :(

This is why we have a mechanic look over it before we buy..rightttttt? haha

In all seriousness that sucks man!

a mechanic DID look over it before I bought it, but it was stuff that he couldnt see without taking stuff apart. Thats what pissed me off the most, the seller was TRYING to take advantage of who bought the vehicle, ie, me.

ahhhhh, man that sucks! What's your next move?

I will do what repairs are actually important and likely go to the shadiest side of my friends and get a fake safety, I really could give less of a sh*t at this point. I know its a safe vehicle to drive.

but seriously though you were told it needs 4000 in repairs to pass safety? that doesnt make sense at all to me. Im a mechanic in ny we have one of the most strict safety regulations in the us and i can count on one hand, how many vehicles i have seen that needed that much for safety and still have fingers left??? now emissions thats a different story. Imo i would get another opinion. although i dont know canada regs but that doesnt sound right at all.

regardless of the ford jokes, me and my friends went thoroughly over the truck with the list of sh*t that the shop came up with and found that NONE of the major repairs listed were legitimately in need to be done. The guy that owns that shop just wants me to pay him to do them. I will be getting a safety test from another shop and see what it really needs, I bet it will pass if I take it to another place.

exactly!!

there was sh*t that isn't even supposed to be inspected on a safety test on my bill. Axle seals? wtf

My friends' truck was pissing tranny fluid, rotted rad mounts, missing a mirror, and a bunch of other crap and it still passed at the shop I'm taking it to now.

well seals are a gray area. are they making noise or is there end play? but yeah hes tryin to take you to brokesville. good that ur gonna take it elsewhere. its people like that, that give the rest of us mechanics bad reps???
F'd up bro

and i was j/k about the ford jokes. hope i didnt offend. anyway good luck with it and dont let knobody give you sh*t. my first rule is if it seems like somthings wrong with a shop is sayin. stop dont get anything done and go and research it first. then decide if you want that person working on your wheels.

yea, I wouldn't sum up all shops because of them though, but I told them they aren't getting my business and the guy's excuse for the list of sh*t he wanted to do to it was that he has a "good reputation and letting a bad truck through would hurt that" I just told him I'm not paying him 4 f*cking grand for his 'reputation'.

my friend will sell me a fake safety certificate for $100 so thats where I'm going I guess.

Get a few shops to check it out, see what they say. If they give you the same quote, just go with the fake thingy

yeah that fake safety cert is really smart because going to jail for some dumbshit is awesome!!!

plus 1 for posting it on the internet too....
