carb cleaner would work better proly... its designed to cut grease without hurting internals..(of engines)

the cause of detonation is too weak a mixture as a weak mixture burns more easily than a rich one, hence the reason for making a lot of engines over rich as a safety measure, what is ur compression and if it is below a 100 you need to rebuild but from the sounds of it you need to get it honed because of the running without lube, you scarred the cylinder wall, you may even need to get it bored

im a bit late to check compression now arnt i? i have the whole thing tore down. hows about. i clean the head and the piston top with petrol, put a drop of 2stroke oil on the piston, leave it for a few mins to soak around the pistion. how do i clean the barrel? with petrol aswell? then put it back together and check my compression?
