Recently ive been thinking about painting all of the plastic on my YFS200. Its the original light grey right now and it doesnt look to good so i said "Hey! Why not paint it?" i asked my father for some help and he told me that you cant paint the plastic. He said there was some chemicals in the paint that dont mix well with the plastic, he also told me that it wont look nice at all.

Is my dad full of it? he may be :-D he doesnt always say the truest things. Anyway, its either i paint them or i have to buy some new plastic. (Just the front and back fenders in a differant color would cost around 300.) I dont really want to spend that much.

So any suggestions? Should i use a special paint or something?

Thanks

I did a google search for "Plastic Renew" and it says that it only makes the current plastic you have on your ATV look nicer than before.

What i am looking for is spray painting my plastic a totally differant color, because i absolutely HATE the grey.

I painted mine with auto body paint. My dad owns an auto body shop, so it was easy enough for me to get the right materials. Prep work is everything. If you prep it right, then the paint will stick fine.....until you roll it over on the road doing like 40 in a wheelie, lol.

We were just talking about this in another post not too long ago, flyers is correct, the prep is everything, i.e. sanding, filling etc. Search the other posts from past, they had alot of interesting info and some tips!

krylon plastic pain, i painted mine this weekend but they didnt have my color, so i bought krylon plastic black , then painted over it in the orange i wanted, my quad is now black and orange except the ugly blue seat

they had some spots where the paint didnt stick cause of oil, so be sure to not touch the fenders with your fingers after you wash them off, and make sure you hang them so the paint doesnt run all to one spot, the first coat will want to run and look like sh*t, do alot of light coats, i used 3 cans onf orange paint on my front and rear fenders

Thanks again. I started painting them yellow today. The grey is showing through a little bit but once i put some more coats on it will be fine. I put 2 coats on today and im going to let them dry overnight. Ill post some pictures when i finish the front fenders.

Heres a picture of the front fenders first coat. Took them with my cell phone since my camera recently broke (i hate water so much.) anyway sorry for the bad quality.

if you go to put another coat on tomorrow make sure you wipe it down with something or even blow it off. if you have a autobody supply shop near by pick up a few tack rags to wipe it off. im a bodyman by trade and i've painted before and i've had everything go wrong.

Ill be sure to do that. I just went out and took a look at them. There dry now and there was a little drip that i touched up with a paintbrush. Theres not much paint there now but it will be fine once i apply some more coats. I think im going to need another can of spray i was cheap and only bought 1 I:I.

where did you find that paint?

The Krylon Fusion paint can be found at any local hardware store, I.E Home Depot, Lowes, or any place where they sell paint....
It's very easy to find.
But beware, although the finish of the paint is decent, without a proper base or finish coat (clear)
The paint will be easily damaged, especially if any fuel is dropped on it.
