I am new to the forum, and the Blaster. I picked one up DIRT CHEAP ($100.00) on Monday Night.
1992
stock
starts first kick
no smoke
sounds smooth
1/2 throttle, it cuts out

checked:
checked and filled the oil
cleaned tank and fresh 93 octane
checked and properly cleaned the carb
checked and replaced the plug.
checked, and no air filter or lid (I'm in need of a air box cover if someone has one laying arund for sale or not.)

it idles great, start great, checked the electronics as well, had to repair a line under the seat ( it was broken). What would cause this "chopping" or "cutting out" it comes and goes very quick, but will not access the top 1/2 of the throttle.

carb has factory setting, and fuel/mix screw set to 1 1/2 from all the way in (as suggested by a Yamaha Tech)

any thoughts?

So there is no air filter on it? You really dont need the lid it performs better with out it.

As for the problem check the reeds out......

even though you cleaned the carb , get a filter then clean the carb again. if you are running without a filter you are getting dirt in the carb. find a cheap filter. vitosperformance has uni filters for cheap.

after i realized there was no filter in it, it was drivin about 150yds back to my garage from the shop where i was working on it. I did a very thorough cleaning on the carb, clean as a whistle. I thought main jet as well. I did try both the injector as well as premix ( i blocked the injector line to test it) and with Yamalube it just doesn't smoke. The injector appears to be working properly.
