I broke the key way shaft in my shift drum so I replaced it today. I have installed the clusters and drum with the forks in the right postion. The key way slot on the drum is in the 1 o'clock position. When I put the two cases back together with the shift shaft should I be able to go through all the gears or do I need to put something else back on. I don't want to seal the cases back up until I know that the trans is in right. Can anyone help please????

well, you can turn the drum through all the gears w/ a little bit of fidgeting....you'll need to turn the clutch (input) shaft back and forth to get the cogs to line up properly, but there won't be and clicks to designate the gears since the detente won't be installed yet.

like Quam said you must turn the countershaft while trying to shift, and remember all the gears have the same count number if you add first gear and the 2 equal 38 they will all equal 38, and remember the counter shaft gets pulled one way while the clutch pulls the other way and this only happens when everything is together and tightened up, you are probaly fine seal it up.
