trans problem

im in the process of getting my project running...fixing some fuel issues now but i also noticed clutch doesnt engage....neutral is fine, but if im in gear and cluch lever in its still stuck in gear...i adjusted the cable as far out as i can but still in gear..whats the first thing i should check

First make sure your cable ends are properly seated in their bores. Next would be to check the adjustment of your clutch adjuster behind your clutch cover.

wildcard's right on the money.
people post this question just about once a week and it's almost always the clutch boss and plate.
drain your oil and pull your clutch cover, make sure that the alignment dots match up on the pressure plate and the clutch boss.

i just ran into the exact same problem myself, and while searching for a solution i found this thread. rep points given to the both of you for the info. thanks guys!

now, lets see if it works... or if thats really my problem...
