Can anybody offer advice?was riding in the snow recently and when doing donuts at low rpm I felt a clunking and heard a knocking sound.it was also shifting a little rough.would not kick into gear every time!the next day I thought I heard a ticking sound at idle.took the top end apart and there is very minor scoring on the piston and barley anything on the cylinder.top end to me looks decent!any ideas???

Because I thought I heard a piston slap noise the next day.possibly two separate problems and just wanted to know for sure.just bought the quad two months ago and never new the condition of the top end until now

if you are lucky....it is a flywheel magnet about to fall off./dont take that to litteral.;)
Blaster's when all is well do have a quite a bit off knocking noise to them.
as well as most 2 stroke engines/depending how close you listen to them:)
only one way to find out/disassemble and inspect.

When I first got mine running I was worried about the noise of it, but I was assured these are some of the noisiest 2 strokes

A chain jumping the sprocket will make a clicking/thumping type of noise also. There are also a few things that can make for hard shifting..

Post some pics of the piston and cyl and you will get some opinions on its condition.

Is there oil in trans? If you pull shift shaft, be sure it's very clean on other end. Smear it with grease to be kinder to the seal. What is condition of chain and sprockets? Rusted links will "thump" . Jack up rear, in neutral and spin driveline by the wheels to try to isolate problem.

Thanks for the input!!the chain and sprockets are very new in great condition.for some reason the previous owner was running ATF instead of oil in it.by the way is it common if u fill the case too much for it to drain alittle on the ground after running it??

Nothing wrong with ATF, it's cheap, works well, but needs more frequent service. If overfilled it would have a tendenacy to blow the excess out of the vent tube, which should go up by the steering hoop. Where is the excess showing up? How much?

Hey larry theres not that much maybe a half dollar size spot on the ground right under the vent tube u were talking about.im gonna try to post pics of the piston.just for some feedback.maybe that clunking i heard was a result of the chain being to tight also.[GALLERY=][GALLERY=][/GALLERY][/GALLERY]

better freshen up that top end before it takes out the top and bottom end
check the connecting rod out to....no up n down play/little side to side

Ok thanks for the advice.will order parts tomorow.already checked rod and it seems good.just like u said no up and down play and just a little side to side play.fresh top end and im gonna loosen the chain alittle cuz right now its REAL tight.i think that was the clunking i heard while riding in the snow

Yeah the chain is like brand new and I oil it every time I go out on it.very tight though I'm gonna loosen it up a bit and see what happens.how much play should you have in it.I don't want it to hit the case if its too loose!

Ok then mine is wayyyyy too tight.thank you.plus being that tight probably made it shift awkward also
