k guys i searched the forum inside and out and can still not find a video or anything.. i know where the tranny oil plug is since its the one right on the bottom of the crank case. i know where to put clutch oil in but where is the clutch oil drain plug and where do you put the tranny oil in?? cant seem to find them anywhere

wait.... huh?

The transmission and clutch cover share oil. It's the same fluid. You drain it out of the very bottom of the case and then refill through the clutch cover. 650 mL or 2/3 of a quart of the transmission fluid of your choice.

No, they share the clutch and transmission lubrication.

Not to start ANOTHER arguement about transmission lubes, but there are many options for transmission fluid. The yamaha service manual recommends non "energy conservation" 10w-30 motor oil. You'll be hard pressed to find "non-energy conservation" motor oil in a regular auto parts store. Motorcycle oils are usually 10W-40 for wet clutches which will work but most are more expensive than a quart of ATF.

There are a few other options, however.

You can use standard automatic transmission fluid (type F if you can find it, regular if not)

You can use specialized gear lubes (belray and others) as long as the gear lube is specifically formulated for wet clutches.

I run ATF in my transmission with no side-effects at all.

It will probably work fine as long as it says it can be used in limited slip differentials. Does it specify that you can use it as the "base" lube for LSD's but you have to have an additional addivitive?

For the summer it SHOULD work. I would change it back out before winter rolls back around though.

no it doesnt say anything about the "base" lube, but i talked to 4 mechanics at 2 different places and they say this stuff will definatly work, and they say it will thicken up from 80- 90 once its hot so it should give good lubrication

Were these the same mechanics who didn't know the clutch and transmission share fluid?

I think the gear oil you have will work, but it's not what I would use.
