quick quesition ive been wondering. i have a .30 over bore, and i still want a porrt job. i was wondering if it would be possible to but a clyinder that was already ported and .30 over, and just replace rings and gasket and just bolt it on? like would it work, or would it just be complety screwed up? and would there be a break in process? aa long as the other cylinder has a good bore?

You would at a minimum have to hone it, it would be best to have both the cylinder and piston measured while you're at a machine shop to make sure everything is where it needs to be.

New rings will need the bore to be honed to make them bed in!

Full break in proceedure will be needed to set the rings and condition the gaskets.

ok i was jw. i was thinking about do a port, and +4 timing on my blaster at the end of the season, and i wanted to do the porting myself just for the experience, than i thought about buying a cylinder since i need to anyway for practice, and thought about just getting a one if i get lucky thats already ported and bored to my size. i think i might just have more luck buying one for practicem then just doing it on my own.

If you can afford the price of taking a chance that you may stuff up a jug, then let me tell you, there is nothing more rewarding than hanging on to the handlebars, with them trying to rip your arms off, running a jug that you ported yourself.

Just don't hack too much out on your first try.

thats y i wanna buy a practice jug lol! i can find one for like $10 hopefully. idc if its fed up. as long as it has good ports. i mean i watch kens vids, and it looks pretty hard to mess up as long as u dont make any big gouges, and dont touvh the cylinder walls other than the port to be raised.

I have been chasing an old iug for a while now, so that my lad can try to stuff one up.

He wants to port his jug, but I aint keen that he practices on a good one.

Blaster parts here are as scarce as hens teeth here, I know that I can get one from the US but the freight cost is frightening.

Other than a pipe, porting is the best bang for your buck.

A stock 26mm carb will not do a port job justice, it will hold it back.

Even a 28mm will make a stocker breathe better!

B) First thing you need to do is educate yourself, more than just Ken's vid, not that there is anything wrong with it. Start with Gorden Jennings and H. Gramm Bell. Ken shows you how, Jennings and Bell tell you what and why. Just remember that a little is a lot when it comes to raising the port roof. Lots of difference between max power and usuable power :o. There is a lot of room for improvement on the ex, you will want to make the dia of the port match your ex pipe dia.

As to the piston Q. Putting a used piston from one cyl to another is a little sketchy IMO. I have only once put a new piston in used bore only because I discovered a crack and the cyl was less than 50% of wear tolerances, ran fine and still does now, tho in retrospect I shouldn't have been so cheap, cause bike had a bazillion hours and still original bore I:I. That's why I'm a firm believer in lots of oil :D

When you get closer to actually doing this either dig this thread up or start a new one.

i laugh inside when people say it costs big $$$ to make power with a 2 smoker!
