Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and also a 1st time owner of a quad. I was wondering exactly what I need to rebuild the top end of my blaster engine and the best place to purchase the parts for a reasonable price? Also, is there a site out there the gives you the step by step on how to do this job?

Thanks for your help!

Hello and welcome to the forum, glad to have ya.

First of all, your top end overhaul depends on a few things:
Is this a maintenance routine rebuild, or did it fry out/seize?
Was this done before, and how much room is left on the cylinder wall to bore out?
Do you want to do a basic rebuild or incorporate some modifications now since the top end is shot or will be overhauled anyway?
Are you considering a big bore or just stock/next size up, etc?

Definitely some questions you want to ask yourself.

As for the parts, they are easy to obtain from numerous resources. Ebay always carries top end kits for Blasters, along with tons of other parts distributors online and what not. Your top end overhaul will need the following:

Piston
Rings
Clips
Pin/bearing

As for the cylinder itself, it will need to be bored/honed to the next size up, or sleeved for a big bore piston, etc, depending on how you want to go with the overhaul. There are ways to hone yourself, but if you are not comfortable with this any bike shop or machine shop can provide this service for you, at very little cost, not a big job, especially if you disassemble the cylinder and take it to them.

Here is the DIY link for all the do it yourself stuff, a good place to familiarize yourself with the procedures that you can do at home, with little to no mechanical experience needed, and are very easy to follow the process. As far as a specific site out there to follow the (how to) process for doing a top end, just google it, there should be a trillion sites that have write ups of people documenting their experiences, etc, on doing their own top end. There are numerous resources and good, knowledgeable people here on BlasterForum that will help with any questions and snags you hit, while going through the process.

just speak up, we are always listening. Have fun!!! I:I

may just need the cylinder honed, have it checked b4 just boring it...no use in boring a cylinder when you dont need to....

inland atv has very good prices on parts. there company name on ebay is dirtparts or dirtpartsguy...either way...they are really cheap and use either stock or wiseco parts...most people just use wiseco....
