Ok so I was intalling my new cometic head gasket and when i was tightening the bolts one of em instead of tightening just pulled the the threaded screw it tightens to up instead of tightening. So now the post is higher than it should be. Any help on what I should do to fix the post back to the height it should be so i can retorque the bolts? Thanks for any help.

Probably stripped it. take it to the shop and have them time cert it, NOT a helicoil. then use green loctite on the stud. When you tighten it down next time use the proper sequence and torque it in stages with a good torque wrench.

Yo don't need to get a new head gasket since it never got fully torqued/ran, but what you need to do, if you have a gas stove, throw it on the burner untill it glows then let it cool, or heat it up with a propane torch to aneal it. Then you can use it again.

So nothing I can do here at home to fix the problem? any idea what a shop might charge to fix it? Also will i need to put a new head gasket in it again because of the seal or will it be fine since I never started it up with the new seal in it?

There's your head gasket answer.

Did you work up to the proper torque spec or did you just go to it immediately?

No I followed the manual and was retorquing in proper sequence to 20 Ft lbs and noticed this problem right away and stopped and thought Id reference the forum for some help.

Thanks for the help really appreciate it so it isnt a big fix or problem? Also where does the post attach to down in the bottom end of the engine?

the threads are more than likely just striped from the head bc its just aluminum happens over time or if u over tighten stuff could have been from some one else and u just noticed it and this may have been your head gasket problom all along hade a bashee that hade a air leak couldnt find it for the life of me was a striped reed cage bolt hade rethreaded anf fixed the prob. so this was more than likely the prob. u were have n in the first place was from it not sealing the head gasket.

every last one of mine did this, one of which was helicoiled, put time serts in it and thats the only way to fly for me from now on

so should i time sert it myself or would it be better to have a shop do it? Is it a pretty easy/ cheap repair

So would a local shop know how to do it correctly? I live in a pretty small town but there is a small shop about 15 min away is a relatively cheap repair?

Dude, just man up and take it to the shop, if they cant do a simple task like this for you then they cant be called a machine shop! Besides if they screw it up worse then its on them, not you! :D:D

i just did the same thing last weekend went to tighten the head bolts and the next thing the bolt was in my hand..... What I did and believe me i am not saying it is right was, took the stripped screw out mixed up some jb weld put it on the screw and re tightened it in there figured this would hold better than loctite... weld has been drying 2 days gonna give it a go tommorow and see if it held up.... I don't care if the bolt never comes out again i just can't have it leaking compression and messing up my bike.... let ya know how it goes...
