Stupid top end rebuild ?

yes. a few people will say it depends or 'if its not scratched up you dont have to' but for the price, do it every time

that is with a over bore. any time you replace the rings you need to hone. honing doesnt make the cylinder and bigger, just scores the walls for the rings to sit.

depends on the shape of the top end. is there any taper to the bore? what kind of shape is the piston in?? can you safely do a light hone and new rings?? are there grooves in the cylinder?? a cylinder only needs to be bored if it is tapered, scored or EXCESSIVLY worn. the only to tell is to break out the inside mic and determine taper and clearance.

Thanks all for the replies. I was assuming that would be the case, but wasn't sure if that held true for these cylinders. Also, I was thinking about buying a second head to have ported. Whatever shop does the porting should be able to tell me the specs for the bore on my cylinder so I know what piston to put in it, right? I've been talking to flotek and they seem pretty reputable.

if i were u,i would hone it and have it mildly ported, and if your cylinder was bored look on the ol piston, and there should be numbers, that will tell u the size piston

you can buy a simple hone at sears for around 30 bucks butt ive been debating if its a diy thing or not, ive done everything else to my bike myself just never tried that
