stroke demystified

Now I've been wondering. How exactly do you de-bore and engine? Do you fill in the sleeve with epoxy or something and drop the smaller piston in?

lol I've thought about the same thing as i read throughout this thread...
......hmmmmmm all this talk about a de-bore how in the world do you do it lol I:I

Well fellas back in the day it was easy.
De-bore a YZ490 with a 465 (bolts right on)
A IT425 can be made into my very own YZ400.
There's a rumor that the 200 Blaster can also be de-bored with a MX175 jug.

y dont u try it paulie u cant handle that power you have now... try that and see if you can get even more :) lol

by deboreing u mean, taking off a 465 head and bolting it on a 490
very intersting, but what would be the point of doing it?

Jes so were all on the same page I'm referring to using a smaller bore jug (and head).
In the case of the 490 goin back to the 465 makes a waaaaay better motor and alot more enjoyable to tune and ride.
If you were unlucky enough to still have the IT425 you know there are ZERO pistons for it so goin back to the YZ400 or even the IT400 would let you play with it again haha.
The 200 to the 175 swap well IDK what that would be good for???
Maybe you jes want a higher reving beeast.

I think i understand what you guy's are talking about. I heard because of the 240 piston's extra mass that it doesn't like running high compression or higher revs and that it would only like a max +3 crank otherwise it will blow your lower rod because the piston is so heavy compared to the rest of the engine/crank that it stresses it out.

or get a custom made sleeve pressed in. i would have to say most debores are done to be able to get a bike to fit a lower race class. i've heard of a +3 stroked blaster, which makes over 200cc, being debored to make it legal for a 200cc class

Thats sorta what I was thinking. who would custom make a sleeve, and also what piston would you use? I think a custom 125 sleeve would be tight and why not? the 450 dirt bikes have 400cc small bore kits.

phrag...... i understand what you said... completely makse sence!!! would this besimmaler to say.. de stroking a small block chevy v8 for the revs and power gains done by doing that?? im guessin.. in my head its the same concept

I'm WAYYYYYYY late and didnt even look to see if anyone answered your question or not.

But just think why a SBC 327 has the ability to make more power and rev higher than say, a 305,307,350,355,383.

Phragles post gives the inept reasoning behind said theory.

a 289 revs to the moon from the factory. With the right bolt ons, and even better, forced induction. This engine can crush most naturally aspirated BBC's.

It's the same deal with SBF's.
Take a 351w and de-stroke it to a 302.
You gain plenty of revs and have a stronger block to boot.
I always wanted to do it, but went with a 383 stoker instead :p

Actually, after I thought about it, wouldnt increasing stroke vs. bore size help to balance as well. Because SBC 383 Strokers will rev to the moon as well....

Well they all kinda balance the same.
My particular motor is zero balenced.
The benefit to a 383 ford is it still uses the same bore as the standard 351.
So your not swinging around any more weight + no notching of the block is required.
