Hey,just bought a bog standard blaster and wondering what would be the best thing todo to it first im gona block the oil injection up also its got balloon tyres on the back whats the best size to get

Cheers

you could get an aftermarket pipe, a high flow air filter, take the air lid off and rejet it. that will bring the blaster some new life.
as for tire size, it depends on what type of terrian you ride on. for more rutted trails, you would want 20" or 22". for groomed trails, 18" would be best.

first off, make sure the machine is good health and bring it up to 100 percent before you mod it.

someone said this the other day,

fix what's broken first, then work on what's not

Cheers for the replys.....
I stay on a farm so the terrain varies theres alot of deep mud etc a tarmac road and fields .......
Whats involved in rejeting it?the brakes are non existent the fronts work but the back doesnt do a thing any idea what will be up with it? there seems to be plenty of meat on the pads

to rejet, you just take the carb off, the the bowl off the carb and swap out jets, i think the main jet is a 6mm socket and the pilot is just a flat head screwdriver. it is hard to change jets.

what year is your blaster?
if it is a 02 or older, you problem might be a stretched cable.
if it is a 03 or newer, you might have an air bubble in your brake line.

for tires, i would get something that offer thick knobs and is hard rubber. the thick knobs for better traction in the mud and the hard rubber so they last longer on the road.

WHeres the best place to get new jets? what size would be best for say an exsaust and airfilter
Also its a 2001 Sorry for all the questions just wanting to try and do it all myself

not really sure since you live over the pond, but a dealer usually has jets for your carb. and to which jets to use, we will never more info, like what pipe you are using, your elevation about sea level and the temp.

if you want to pay the extra shipping, i know places like FAST racing can make you a custom jet kit for your carb and set up.

ya with that site you need to know what jets you need, but with FAST racing (F.A.S.T Racing) they will make yuo a jet kit to suit your needs. the guy is a builder too and does some good work.

rockymountainatvmc.com has jets and anything else you might need aftermarket-wise. I'm sure they sure they ship international if you can't find something in kilt country.

For those rear brakes, they might just need adjustment. A common mod is to install a "shorty" cable that does away with the portion going up to the e'brake, making it easier to adjust as well. Also, I have heard they have a tendency to seize up, you might need to disassemble and lube them. Check out the handy-dandy manual, and "Cheers" to you too.

Rejetting is not difficult. Loosen the clamps on the carb, slip it out of the boot, then just flip it on it's side to access the bowl. You don't need to disconnect anything. Remove the four screws, pull the bowl off, and the main jet is right there in the middle.

Lose the lid off the airbox, and stick a 270 jet in there to start assuming all stock otherwise. Probably the easiest/cheapest way to perk it up a bit. Virtually any powersports dealer(of any brand) will have jets, and while you can get a custom jet kit, it's not that hard. There's a turorial here how to dial in jetting, but just change ONE thing in the carb, then drive it around a bit, then check the plug. Ideal is a cardboard color, a moderate shade of brown. Black is too rich, and gray to white is too lean. Change jets until you get the sweet spot, but a 270 will be a good place to start, and what worked good for me.
