Could someone tell me which side of the case holds the tranny after the cases are split. I dont just want to go splitting the cases and have my trans fall out in pieces. I would like to be able to see how it exactly how it comes apart. Thanks alot for any help. THIS FORUM HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL FOR ME THANKS TO ALL!!

when you split your cases the gears will be on the left side of the motor ive done it like 3 times because the right side is free from everything and lifts off

wrong.
the tranny sits installed on the right side case. this is the clutch side. this way if you don't need to remove the tranny, you can simply leave the snap rings and idler gear on the idler shaft, and the clutch basket lightly bolted on. this will keep the tranny and shift drum installed onto the right case half.

umm yea if u dont wanna split the cases it will be on ur right but when u do u put the motor down on the left side and the transmission might fall out because the one shaft goes through the left sides bearing and seal so how is that wrong if i sed its on the left side? lol dude ive tore my engine apart like 4 times and split the cases and when u wanna leave the tranny in place u tip onto the left side so u dont loose nething

i think you're thinkin left side if you're lookin at the engine from in front of the bike. i'm thinking right side sitting on the bike.
the clutch is on the right case half. the transmission and the balancer, idler shaft and transmission are all mounted to the right case half (clutch side). one shaft of the transmission cluster is the clutch shaft, one shaft is the idler shaft on one end and the counter shaft on the other.
in order to leave the transmission in the case, you lay the engine on it's right side and lift the left case half off. the left case half just has the hole for the counter shaft (where the front drive sprocket goes).
