after reading a recent thread and the urination matches about silencer once again i will educate you all on silncers..

dirtblaster and i both ran shortened lrd silencers and noticed changes in the power curve..

SILENCER

Silencers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. A long silencer with a small diameter enhance the low to mid power because it increases the bleed-down pressure in the pipe. A silencer with a short length and a large core diameter provides the best bleed-down pressure for a high rpm engine. Too much pressure in the pipe at high rpm will radically increase the temperature of the piston crown and could cause the piston to seize in the cylinder.

EXHAUST PIPE

The exhaust pipe of a two-stroke engine attempts to harness the energy of the pressure waves from combustion. The diameter and length of the five main sections of a pipe, are critical to producing the desired power band. The five sections of the pipe are the head pipe, diffuser cone, dwell, baffle cone, and the stinger. In general, after market exhaust pipes shift the power band up the rpm scale. Most pipes are designed for original cylinders not tuned cylinders. Companies like MOTOWERKS custom computer design and fabricate pipes based on the cylinder specifications and the type of power band targeted.

now this dont say you will make more power.. but it will effect where your power comes on.. which can determine if you win or loose,

me personaly i like a mid top power range with a sielncer for that range. i like my power hard in the mid range .. who dont like lookin at the sky?

i also shortened my lrd silencer, but only because it stuck out 2 inches, and didnt wanna snag it if i stood it up too far, but i did it before running it, so never got to compare it
good info fed, have some greens !!!!

right now my fmf powercore II is the regular length (a little longer than my current grab bar but i'm getting a new grab bar soon that way i don't lose my silencer) and i am making good power all over but got more in the bottom end which i like. would shortening it make me lose bottom end power?

i had a turbine core on my 89.. i didnt like the lenght. i did notice a change in the power range when i would switch from the lrd to the fmf.. i like the older style fmf power cores, and the dg oval silencer.. they fit the machine nicer

The silencer on a smoker is actually part of a tuned system.
Case in point, drag pipes.
Ever wonder why they have the long section of skinny pipe that comes after the expansion chamber?
It's because it's part of the tuned length and makes the most power that way.

On a poker it provides the necessary added back presure for better powa.
It's a fact that running without one on either type of machine actually loses HP.

thank you paulie..... on a 4 stroke you will notice changes in torque more than hp... hence why i have a megamax on my 200x, i have it un capped with no plates right now due to my short gearing so i have the tq curve moved up higher in the rpm, and when i get the gearing set ill be running with the plates to get low end

ive read that before and il agree that the silencer will do something but its not like on a 4 poke like alot of people think imo. when i put the fmf silencer on mine i noticed just the tinest bit of throtle response but not realy a hole lot of anything. sounded waaaayyyy better. awk moutain awk lost his silencer he said he lost some power dun dun dun hudacks hoodie string to the rescue :D its just not a arm riping off gain like some people beleive have some rep fed even though you dont need it :p

i know this is a old thread but i have a lrd silencer and pipe an i to think i might shorten it to see if there is a diff in power. i already shortened it like half a inch to have new rivvet holes

my powercore 2 is cut waaay down. i never ran it not cut down so i cant tell you the difference. but it does look and sound cooler
