ok so ive got a kx250 1988 engine stripped it down it was in a right state rebuilt it back up and its in good condition now, good great compression, good strong spark, getting fuel and yet i cant get it fired up, saying that ive had it fired up twice now but after about 30 seconds it cuts out and wont start again, can anyone help me, also it has a high idle on it and yet air screw is right in and the carb slide is touching the bottom, theres no gap at all would this mean it has a air leak? thanks guys i know i shouldnt be asking this on here but if any of you know anything it would be greatly appreciated

Check the carbs jets for dirt and clean everything. Check the carbs float level too. High idle is most likely air leak if the air screw is set right. No idle could possibly be way off on jetting but I dont know much about the older kawi bikes.

ive cleaned the carb 100's of times and ive positive its sound.

sounds like an air leak, my old blaster did the same thing. don't keep running it, it could blow out.
really! sh*t i never knew it could blow out would that also be why i cant get it fired up?

My blaster was a biotch to start, I thought nothing of it, I wasn't aware it had an air leak, and it revved up really high by itself once and then stopped right in the middle of a stroke, blew the cylinder apart and the piston. $900 mistake.

I'd take it apart and check to see that all the gaskets are tight.

Sounds like a leaky crank seal
would you say? well i think im going to rebuild it again thanks for the advice

sh*t unlucky mate, im going to rebuild it again and replace everything best get it right first time

The end of my air screw on my kawasaki is all burnt up it is located on the bottom of carb on this quad but not suer if yours is the same try taking it out and look at the tip That may be it. mine does exactly as your saying high idle hard to start but my rebuild kit does not have that screw in it

Yeppers. Sounds like a bad crank seal. I'm replacing mine. And yes the air leak can scatter the whole motor. Bad crank seals can also drain your tranny of oil and plug up the pipe.
