this guy that lives up my holler stopped today and told me he had a 1988 Yamaha Blaster (first year they were made if i remember right) that he bought not long ago. he said when he bought it the stator cover was off so it has no spark. he said the guy told him it was bored over but he doesn't know how much. he said it has no spark so it needs a new stator and it doesn't have any brakes. he said i could use it for parts or fix it to have another one to ride. he told me $100 dollars and it was mine and he said whether i use it for parts or fix it you can't beat $100 dollars. do you guys think i should go for it?
 
i'd say if you have $100, go for it. fix it and ride it. or you could use the parts you need, and part the rest. it may take a little while to sell the parts, but i'm sure you can make your $100 back
 
well i hate to say this but 1. i don't have 100 dollars i'm going to try and get my mom to lend me cash (that i never pay back usually) 2. if i get it i will probably fix 3. after it's fixed and running i am probably selling it and my 2005 blaster to get a bigger quad (that was the bad part). i am looking for more power whether it's a raptor 660, a trx450r, or a 400ex. i'm stuck in a tight spot because i have put almost everything new on the 2005 but i just don't care much for how compact a blaster is.
 
you can make a blaster bigger... I have some nice bikes but I see some blasters that look like they'd put away my bikes. I've seen quite a few blasters that'd bigger than my bikes lol. stretched front and back drag/dune bikes come to mind right away. but I do see trail and MX bikes that're pretty big too, stretched, widened...

shee axle and wider arms, long travel is a plus. extended swinger flipped front rims, hell even wheel spacers work if they can hold up to the type of riding you do..

maybe put all the souped up parts on the 88, put the 05 back to stock, sell it and buy a bigger bike off that money and keep the cheap one and have two bikes :D that way if one is down you can still ride :D that's what I do too. I try to keep them all running but stuff happens that you sometimes can't anticipate and need to wait for parts so 2 bikes is usually fun. my buddy had a trx450 and 250r both were built MX bikes and when he'd break motor mounts and what not on the 250r he'd break out the 450r and ride it. he took both to the track every trip I mean. not just ride it while the other one was broken. I mean ride it onto the track soon as the 250 was busted so he could keep riding for the day lol
 
Yea if you're strapped for cash coming up with a bill to buy that 88 how are you going to afford a raptor or 450 those are expensive 4 strokes.if I were you id keep the budget friendly blaster you've already built and get the 88 and as suggested fix it.use all the stock stuff to build the 88,
 
well i'm still working on getting the cash but i don't know when i will see the guy again. he just happened to be walking up the road that day. if i get it i will definitely fix it up and keep you guys updated. thanks for responding.
 
yeah, I agree, if you can't afford a $100 blaster what happens when you need tires for the 4 stroke plus gas, plus oil change.. or something breaks. doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I haven't had ANY motor trouble and spent at least a grand in the last 6 months on EACH of my 4 strokes, oil, gas and misc stuff that needs changing, brake pads, caliper on the raptor, tie rod ends, raptors intake manifold rubber things. oil changes are every 2 rides and run $30+... so how often do you plan on riding said bike? gotta pay to play. the blaster is like the cheapest possible quad I can even think of. and it's upgradable and can be ALOT of fun imo not to mention it's the cheapest bike to build imo
