Shifting issue

Threw my motor back together but for some reason it shifts for crap on the bench. the roller stops halfway right on the tip of the star. Like in half shifts. What gives.

when it does this i have to slide the lever off and turn the star buy hand to get it to complete the shift. Turning the output or drive shaft does little to nothing to help this.

star spins freely with the roller/spring not installed.

That sounds normal, spin the sprocket as you shift it and it will work right. The gears need to turn for it to shift

sounds like maybe a fork is in the wrong spot

Trans never came apart. I took the stator side cover off removed my busted push rod and put it back on. Never put a hand on anything inside

have you tried turning the input on the trans while you try to shift it?

when i did my sons bottom end, my first attempt at one, i tore it back apart 6 times for similar reasons, finally could only get 3 gears and said "fug it" i'm puttin it in, if only has 3 gears so what, well after adding tranny oil and doing a heat cycle, figured it was time to check, but it shifted thru all the gears and is still fine today, musta needed oil to shift right, cause it sure wasnt on the bench ?????

Seems like they always shift screwy on the bench. I think it's a RPM thing.
