I bought a set of boysen power reads and it suggest blue loctite to seal the screws, i am having a hard time finding any of this around in the great white north. What do you guys use? or do any of the canadian boys know where i can find some?

Come on, Whitty. Any auto parts store should carry blue loctite. And it's not to seal the screws, it's so they won't fall out. You wanna just barely get them snug. Any tighter and the reeds bend up. Make sure the screws and holes are really clean first (brake or carb cleaner) loctite won't stick to oil.

thanks man, found some thread lock today at a local hardware store, he didn't even have it in the shelf, had to get it from the back. it isn't locktite but it is something orother blue grade. same stuff different name. I got the reeds on and back in, now i just got to replace stripped angine stud, put the new redesigned head on and start tuning it

nothing to do with this topic, which really isn't the right topic, but i wasn't supposed to pit those big metal deals back on with the boysen power reeds were they, they didn't show it in the picture but i just wanna make sure

I think it is personal preference. with the reed stop installed it has alittle less power bc the reeds can't open as far but the reeds last longer bc they aren't being flexed so far. and the opposite with the stops taken off. this is what i have read. i tried it both ways and didn't notice any difference.

I think with the stock cage you are suppose to but don't hold me to that. i sure somebody here knows

You can't absorb everything you read on this forum, your mind would explode.

Most AM reeds supply a little metal bar and screws, while telling you to leave off the factory reed stops.

I don't run the factory reed stops. "More power is better", and reeds are a consumable item anyway.

If you already have it buttoned up I would run as is, it's not going to hurt it, but you were supposed to use the little metal strips instead. Next time you have it apart remove the reed stops, they're useless.

Even with the reed stops the boyesen should give you a noticeable difference in throttle response....even more so if you removed the reed stops!
