Scored a DT200r motor and electronics!!!

sounds sweet but so this motor is a direct bolt in? more power and water cooled? wat bike does it come off of?

it comes from a dt200 dirt bike, sold basically everywhere but the US and you have to order parts (that won't interchange with the blaster) from dealers in another country, because US dealers cannot even order parts for one

This is hard to type because I had a MX accident and broke my index finger and had to get stitches on another...

Redline made a great post with tons of info on how the swap is done.

Here's the lowdown: It has to be the 37F Reed induction engine. It was sold longest in select Central and South American countries. Sold from 84-88 in Canada, Greece, Iran, Japan, and many other countries. The DT200R or DT200L/C used electronically controlled powervalves, yamaha called this system YPVS(yamaha powervalve system).

Basically you have blank options:
Buy a complete DT200R engine, harness, servo motor, and some sort of radiator and mount it and go. Problem is the bike was geared for the street w/ mild dirt use. Basically this would leave you with lots of time in between shift, wouldn't wind up so to speak as quickly as the blaster.

To do the swap you have 3 options:
You can press the bushings out of the blaster basket. Have the center of the clutch basket from the DT200 machined to fit the Blaster bushing and press it back in. Problem is these parts are not available, so if you screw up you have to buy an entire clutch basket. This allows you to use the DT primary drive gear and water pump gears from the DT200r clutch cover.

2nd is to have a custom Water pump drive gear made which meshes properly with the primary drive gear and you can use your blaster clutch cover or push the small post that hold the gear in the DT's cover out. If you use the Blaster cover you'll have to drill/tap the holes and make a shaft to hold the water pump gear in place.

3rd is a little know fact! This is the EASIEST and CHEAPEST way to do the swap, but the part is hard to come by...

Top end swaps on, you'll the the water pump pipe which connects the clutch cover to the cylinder. If you can find one and believe me they are VERY hard to find, atleast were for me.

A DT125L/C Only the L/C model clutch cover w/ water pump either the mk3 or mk2 will work, but the water pump gear meshes PERFECTLY with the blasters primary drive gear. This takes all the trouble out of the swap. The reason why I had to go the hard route was that I broke the plastic gear on accident. So when I order another one I'm gonna machine up or get someone to machine for me, some water pump gears out of aluminum. Anyways, just thought I'd add alittle bit of knowledge to the subject... Sorry for the punctuation and grammar, just getting used to the new job and I'm tired.

Also the link to redlines post, gives more detailed info, need to go to sleep. Lata guys

I'm in the process of making a wiring diagram for the blaster/DT engine swap. I'll have it done in 5 days.

Now that I have a camera and new computer this forum is much easier to use. Sorry I've been withholding pictures from you guys but basically the blaster been raced like 7 times, practiced on 4 times, and ridden for 7 hrs besides that. I mostly spent time on my 450r which I raced MX with. I raced local A, and at better riding areas I raced B. About a month ago, 4 of the local tracks closed down due to financial reasons. Lots of the tracks in GA aren't what I'd call quad-friendly and I decided to see what racing dirt bikes was like the other saturday. After riding once I was hooked, but still plan on racing quads in GNCC woods. So today after much deliberation I decided to sell the 450r, and the new owner picked it up in stock condition. Sorry the only pics I have are on a friends camera. I still have to sell the parts off of it. Also I'm lucky enough to have a mother who happened to retire recently and has allowed me to pay insurance and drive her car. I sold the GTO, and feel like I'm a bum driving my mom's car. So let me cut to the chase...
The 450r money, and other quad money is going towards a 2stroke 125 2002+ model, and the blaster is getting some changes for the umptenth time.

Since I've owned it I've changed parts and traded parts many times. I love this quad, but I have been foolish and not sat down to make a clear plan. Well, reason for adding all this in is I finally for the first time in my life have a clear vision of how I want this quad to turn out.

Selling the stock 240, 240 ported, shocks, a-arms, front rims, all spare stock parts, etc....

I have scored a lot of parts SUPER cheap, all the parts I'm about to show in the photo I payed less than $134.67:

Blaster Right case, clutch boss, new OEM spare parts, Derisi woods racing valved 250r (someone said they are peps)works front shocks(need rebuild), chewbacca 1977 figure came in box, 450r rear shock, ninja 250r radiator w/ spal fan, wiseco NOS 66mm piston, fat bars, blaster tranny, studs and many DT parts.

Also going to get a DT tranny and make a comparison of the 2.
Still need full gaskets, water pump seal, new circlips, bearings, possibly a +3 crank, block of billet alum, ASR 3+1+ A-arms, Steel tubing for stem, .190 front wheels or reinforced ones, and some other stuff..

Anyways I've been withholding and this is the "Teaser" before picture of my blaster. I'm changing to LT front end and liquid cooling and redoing the swing-arm for more travel. Tonight I'm going to polish ALOT of aluminum parts and bead blast everything. Also got the sleeve installed in the DT cylinder, and in 2-3 wks if money permits off to O'connor it goes. Sorry to write a novel, but just wanted to tie up some loose ends.

Just posted this book so everyone would know I'm alive and well. ;)

Taller gears eh phragle? I want to keep the DT basket and primary drive I have but I'll PM you the email of my friend in Canada who has a TON of these bikes. Thanks for the offer though, it'd be worth it. Actually lemme think about it...

Moving the brake mounting, lower mount on swing-arm, making a custom stem, custom head(spent tons of hours in Solidworks and Autocad testing it), and possibly modding some other parts.

Got a question, how does my welding look? I've not been doing it but for about a yr. Think it's up to snuff for fabbing up my own parts or should I get some help from a engineering friend? All the gussets, custom fender mount, cdi mount, etc was welded by me. Thanks guys.

the welds look a little big, probably just need a little more heat. i think i'm going to have to get the hook up on some of those DT parts....

if you don't mine me asking, what did a sleeve for that DT run you and where did you get it from?

Blaster and DT use the same sleeve. Got a NOS wiseco from a guy on ebay for $55, 66mm. YFS200 and DT200R use the same sleeve. I'll get pics if someone wants me to back it up. lol Thanks for the reply on the welding, yeah I needed that constructive criticism. I'll try to adjust it, and post some pics when I start hacking up the swinger.

dude im soo pumped that this swap is actually working out for the both of us, these parts are a nightmare to find, ive even contacted some people in australia

btw, still no response from al :(

so What happened to this project? I was reading to see how you did your radiator but the thread stops. did the project? I just imported an entire Yamaha DT200 bike and I have already swapped the blaster engine into the bike with some modification and it works great! I have The DT motor mocked up in the blaster as well as the exhaust and suspension so I can see where i want to mount a radiator but I havent been sure on what to do. I am starting with trying to mount a 2001 YZF250F twin split rad but it is really close to suspension and exhaust. PUT MORE UP!!! inquiring minds want to know. if not im gonna beat you to the punch and have mine posted before yours is done!! LOL!!!I:I

Sorry bud been hammering the books. I haven't been on in a while, but I'll have the pictures of the "completed" blasty in 2 wks. It's in my bud's garage in Cleveland, TN. I am swamped with bookwork until Dec, 12. It's 97 percent done, just had to sell off the aftermarket suspension until I can get my custom a-arms built... I'm going to turn the blaster semi stock w/ shocks, swing-arm, and a-arms and the DT engine prob. or put it in a YZ125 chassis. Unsure... Either way it's gonna get at least 200hrs of ride time before I make my decision.

Anyways, just PM me and remind me to post pics in 2wks... First chance I've had to look over the forums.

Thanks for being patient everyone, having 3 hobbies get really expensive, and I've had to slow down some.
Happy turkey day!
I'm using a Kawasaki Ninja Radiator, prolly gonna swap that to a RZ350 rad or 86 ATC250R rad... doesn't seem large enough and I have pipe clearance issues as well. It does run, but I only have a rear brake so I've still got some work to do, jetting etc. Awesome you've done the swap? Is it an 84-88 DT200R or a WR200R engine?

i just finished this swap to my blaster took 2 days mounted rad and just used a blaster bottem end ( way better) dts use thinner shafts in the tranny with extra load they can and have broke. i dident swap the harness with my bike, This swap also gives u the chance to run a boost bottle most people forget that. after motor was complete i tryed it with the my blaster origional carb set up (270 main) and without the powervalve lost mid range power drastically but let me tell you EXPLOSIVE powerband. i used a 1984 dt motor and the primary is the same as the blaster??? aswell as the dt motor i used dident have a balancer in it. the hardest part with mounting the dts bottem end is the back engine mount is smaller with needs a tricky drill out to fit it.

AND to all of you who live in the states its not like everyone on here from canada ect have dt200's in there back yards/back pockets these were common bikes BUT STILL RARE and hard too find. if one is found its not gonna be cheep and if someone finds one usually they would like it for themselves look online kijiji is good contact the seller yourselves.

The only reason this thread has dragged out is because of funding problems and time problems. I was finishing my undergraduate degree in Mechanical engineering during alot of it, and had lots of other odds and ends to tie up in other areas of my life. once I got down to it, it was a simple swap... I ran it two times and then decided to fool around with some other things on the quad/engine, and one thing led to another and now I've got a quad in parts and no time to finish it until next month. I still have some wiring issues to sort out, but it worked(pv that is). This wkend I'm sending pics to a friend and I'll post them on here for everyone to see. Also to make matters worse I'm training for dirtbike mx season in my spare time.

Triplecrown- I thought it was awesome you didn't have to change the primary gear. I guess '84's have that same gear pattern. I have spare parts but they aren't for-sale, hehe.

yea the biggest draw back for me was that waterpump gear i dident want to run the dt gears cuz there two spaced out and u cant interrtiwine the primarys and trannys so i hurd u had to mod the water pump gear to runn off the blaster eather i lucked out of something fishy is going on here.

i have a whole extra complete 1987 dt200 dirtbike :) kinda sittin around for a ranny day i wonder what the pump gear looks like on that. lol im not gonna lie any spare parts i got i worked hard to get and im stilll always looking.

if i found one i would strip all the goods off it and replace with blaster components to resell (keep those good parts off the bike) im actually in the process of doing this with the bike i used for my blaster ill show pics when complete
