does anyone know a good method for honing a blaster cylinder with sandpaper. Ive been told multiple different methods that contradict each other and was wondering how it could properly be done without actually using a hone tool.

You can use a scotch brite pad to hone a jug. Do it in the sink under hot water and work your hand at an angle to leave cross hatch marks at a 45 degrees.
It won't be as good a say a real hone or bottle hone but it works just fine to break a glaze on a cylinder. I've done this a bunch of times in the past.

Be sure to either dry the jug with paper towels IMMEDIATLY or simple spray it down with carb cleaner to prevent a 'flash rust'.

Sand paper is too rough and will actually gouge the steel leaving not just micro scratches but actual jagged "cuts" in the cylinder.

Paulie's got it... scotch brite pad and working at an angle so you never scratch straight around or up and down (neither of which are condusive to proper break in)

DO NOT EVER USE SANDPAPER TO HONE A CYLINDER.

theres your answer.

Down boy! Sit! Good job BBB, straighten'em out man. ;)

One can use 600-800 wet and dry paper wrapped around a wad of rag, using kero as a lubricant. (carefully)

There is no good substitute for a proper honing tool, but the wet and dry will do at a pinch.

thanks for all the quick responses.. i think ill give the scotchbrite pad a try and see how it works.. if it doesn't seem to have been adequate than i will get it honed
