for those of you that follow the show "DEADLIEST CATCH" on discovery phill past away yesterday.

Captain Phil Harris, fisherman in charge of the Cornelia Marie on the popular Discovery Channel show "Deadliest Catch," passed away late yesterday nearly two weeks after suffering a stroke on Jan. 29.

Harris was 53.

Sons Jake and Josh Harris posted this statement to their father's Web site:

"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad -- Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

yeah i saw that yesterday morning, sucks he was super cool. i was watching discovery last night and they already had a in memory clip of him wishing him smooth passage. RIP cap'n

He was a riot. Sucks to die so early, but he smoked like a f*cking chimney. Even in the season he was having problems with blood clots he kept smoking and didn't do much to help the situation. Either way, he will be missed on that show. RIP

that is sad but he was a ticking timebomb.........watch some older episodes and you'll see that he has a cig in his mouth 24/7, he was over weight aswell...... thats why you gotta keep your selves healthy..... phil, you will be missed!

yeah my wife told me last night and i was like wtf really......but yeah he was having problems last season......i remember one episode were he forgot he had one cig lit and lit another.....so he put both in his mouth lol rip man

What! I had no idea he passed away. I knew about the stroke and how he was coughing up the blood from the show from smoking and what not but wow! That sucks!
