I pulled the head of my 06 blaster due to low compression (95psi) and the cylinder looks to be perfect. the only thing I did notice was the reeds do not fully close all the way. Im thinking about putting new boyesen power reeds due to the low cost and "power gain" and I just wanted to know if the reeds not closing could be causing it to run hot and not have the required compression, please help

I'd still say the rings are wore. I'd pull the cylinder off and have the bore checked to see if it needs bored or just honed and throw in fresh piston. and yeah i'd throw in some new reeds while your there!

This is not the time to take shortcuts. I would send it to KOR. Have him measure it. You might get away with a set of rings. I would also have him port it and cut the head while it's there. This way you have done some routine maintenance and doubled your horsepower. Once you ride a ported bike you wont want to ride a stock one. I should send my riding lawnmower engine to Ken, it's getting boring cutting the grass!!!

Running hot could be because you may have developed an air leak.

You will gain little or no power from the Boyesens, just a snappier throttle.

Ok, but could the reeds not closing cause it to have less compression

Reeds should not be the culprit for poor compression, they could be responsible for one or two psi.

Low compression is usually caused by excessive wear, but if it has been running hot lack of lubrication can also cause a low reading.

Although not really needed in a 2 stroke, squirt a little 2 stroke oil in the plug hole and re test, if the compression raises drastically the crankcase lacks oil.

While you have the head back on leak test to find out why it was running hot, a 2 stroke must be leak free.
