Just bought a 2000 blaster and it needs some love. Carb looks new and i cleaned it but would still bog in the upper rpm's. Also no 5th gear. Upon disassembly It looks like the balance ate into the case and also there is a crack any suggestions? Could a shop weld/ grind to fix this. Also it looks like it was rebuild poorly before I got it. What all should I check before reassembly. Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

Do you have the pieces that broke off? How's the bearings on balance shaft?
That. May have broke also from a piston skirt breakin off previously? Take it and see if they can fix it .if not have to get another case

Both the bearings feel fine, no play. And there's no markings on the balance shaft that indicate that it was rubbing, I think it was half-a$$ rebuilt before I got it. I can not find the piece that broke off. Thanks for the reply.

Break is from the crank area out so I'm voting piston skirt broke off on previous piston. Does the cylinder look like it was bored and new piston? Excessive clearance
Leads to piston slap which breaks skirt off cast pistons

The block its at a shop, Getting 67mm wiseco piston top and bottom kit. Having it bored and having the case welded. It looks like the piston that in there currently is 66.5mm or so. From what the shop measured. Also the rings had a rather large gap, dont recall how much. I do want it done right. So I'm assuming new top and bottom, all new bearings, new balance shaft and all seals is the way to go? so I did order new lock washers with the bend tabs and almost all new nuts, bolts, studs, new intake manifold. These are the main parts, not sure the quality. Hope they will work well.

I also need to check the shift forks it looks like.

The locking tabs and nuts are a good idea.
Snap rings for idler gear are supposed to be replaced also. Hows the balancer gear?check to see if it is loose or coming apart
Sounds like you got it covered.
