Hi i just rebuilt my engine but bike wont start now. I only getting a small spark and is it normal for air to be blowing back up intake when kicking it?

Air blowing back out intake points to broken reed.

Thanks awk. That would stop it from starting too wouldnt it? And where could i get a standard one from as i live in ireland

Bad reeds would make for hard or no starting. Maybe try Ebay ireland? or a moto shop local to you? International shipping could be a bit expensive.

It maybe that you can fix the reed by flipping it over if it is not chipped or broken.

Can anyone tell me what the reeds are meant to look like? Mine has a small gap between the flaps and the body. I cant up load any pics

A small gap should no create any problem!

Thanks for the replies. No i just have a small gap in the thin plastic flaps and the body. But for some reason i dont have them thick plastic pieces. Are they needed? If a small gap wouldnt make a difference what else could be wrong

the curved metal ones? those are called reed stops.

Not 100% needed, but they are 100% recommended.

If you dont have the stops, the reeds can be opened too far and crack or chip on the slap close.

Are your reeds white/little transparent or are they black?

You mean the reed stoppers? If you can, get a pic up and show us.....Its hard sight unseen.

How do i upload off iphone? Yeah the reed stops i dont have. No chips or cracks. They are white transparent ones. There is about 2 mm gap in the reeds both sides

2mm gap may be the problem, a .5 gap should not give problems.

I suggest replacing those.

Those are old and yellow as you can see, probably very frail.

i would suggest finding reed stops or upgrading to some better reeds with a cage and stops like VF4

so whats the whole story? did your quad run before rebuild? know does not? was the bore measured before new top end? did you do a compresssion test? answer away
