Typical aye? I'd say one of the most obvious problems with Blasters (especially the older models, which I have...mines a '99) is the brakes. Especially the rear ones. I've noticed some people will do hydro conversions and I've heard of conversions to the newer style of brakes which are (from what I hear) slightly better.

My first problem? Money. I have minimal work opportunities for a few months and brakes isn't where I wanna dump money right now.

My second problem? After getting my Blaster running I realized it was bogging and barely moving, got back to the garage to see a Ferrari-looking rear brake disc. That thing was glowing like nothing else. I tinkered with my brake caliper for a while, got frustrated, and quit. I can't get them to open correctly or really work at all.

On a tight budget what is my best option or 2? I was thinking either '03+ conversion or caliper rebuild kit

This may be something worth sticking, thanks guys!

I had the same problem... Well kinda... 99 also. I just bought it a few weeks ago and had old school brakes but they did not work at all! Wife's blaster wanted me to go hydro but like you on a budget and trying to get it running right before I start upgrading. So we tore them down and rebuilt both front and back. They seem to work fine. From what I've heard they're finicky and You are always having to adjust them but for $50 bucks I'm giving it a try. Have you opened up the rear cylinder?

We got money pit's to work. They can be made funtional. Here is how you do it.

You need to buy the shorty cable, and pads. They will not work as good as hydro's and will need adjusting, but they do work or Yamaha wouldn't have been able to sell them. The easiest and cheapest way to get a hydro setup is to pm member AWK08 and buy a GSXR bolt on setup from him.

I've read the thread that Wifesblaster attached, honestly forgot it even existed. Glad to hear people can play with them and get them to work so I'll deff look for a rebuild kit. I think I'll take ya up on that offer Herp, I need a new cable either way...the last guy had 2 pieces of cable held together by some clamp...this quad needs some serious saving

The pads will come with a new gasket. One on the old pads should have an o ring on it. You will need to reuse it. If you buy cheap pads be prepared to sand down the bigger pad a little bit. It is just a hair to wide to fit in the caliper. You want to rub some grease on the metal part of the bigger pad. Also grease all the moving parts inside the caliper. You will see what I'm talking about when you open it up.
