i have a 01 blaster is was rebuilt before i bought it the engine sounds very noisy compared to my buddys blaster, what should i check for, does it maybe just new piston and rings i have no clue how much time is on them. quad runs idles and shifts fine just noisy as hell

do you have stock exhaust? it could be making the noise. put a pair of leather gloves on and grab the exhaust in different places and see if the sound deadens a little bit or stops .if so then it's your exhaust rattling inside or where it's mounted to the frame. also check your motor mounts and look and touch different parts of the atv to make sure all other parts are tight. if you can't find anything then it could be the motor itself like a bad bearing, rod bearing etc.

yeah it has a fmf pipe but it sounded the same before i put the pipe on what can i do to tell if it is the bearings

Hi, I may be way off here but the wife's quad started to make a "clicking" noise friday and saturday it went boom. All I would of had to do is pull the top end and check the rod bearing.

Well yesterday my bike had a noise in the engine I opened my engine the side were the kick start is and my balance gear was broke and that messed up some other gears so if its not what that guys said check that you might have a messed up gear

k so i shoudl start by taking the head off and go from there

If you pull the head you will need to pull the jug also, very simple. I would replace the lower gasket if I was doing so. I would start with what the others are suggesting first check the simple stuff. Like the question 244 asked does the sound increase with rmp's.

most of the time when blasters make a loud noise its piston slap, wich means new piston/rings, do a compression test and that will tell you if the piston and rings are good

i think i'm throw a piston in it either way i have no clue how many hours are on them i can get a wiseco complete topend kit for 105 shipped cant beat that

Mine had new wiseco top end, bike had about 130 psi after three kicks. After a long straight stretch wife slowed down for a corner and now I need a new top end kit, rebore and crank brearing. When you pull your top end check the crank bearing. Save time and money.

key words, long straight stretch... it was a little lean and running wot for periods of time on a 2stroke isnt good anyway, so it scratched the hell put of the cylinder and froze the rings in the piston.. bet im right

say you mix your gas at 32:1 which is a standard mix.....running lean means your pulling in more air through your carb than fuel no matter what you mix your gas. depending from stock what you have added to your atv like exhaust, open airbox or better flowing air filter etc. you will be running lean because your engine can pull and push more air through it's engine but you didn't change the main jet in the carb so your engine is getting more air with out more gas added. since your getting more air than gas that is there in your motor your getting a lot hotter combustion because of more air/oxygen but since your lean/less fuel your not getting in enough oil/fuel(32:1) combination to cool and lubricate your piston/bearings so your friction goes way up and you scratch the piston or blow the piston/motor up. anytime you change anything that goes to your motor you should rejet to make sure it's not in a lean condition. The same thing goes for your gas mixture say the motor was setup for 32:1 and you change it to 40:1 that would also mean a lean condition but on your oil mix ratio which would cause the same problems. What blaster man was saying is that you were lean on your main jet in the carb. running wot throttle/long straight stretches on 2 strokes are hard for the motors especially if your lean you should always go up one more or so on your main jet size to be safe for wot runs/straight stretches.

blastermans right happened to me twice.added a filter on the carb and oil injection lines werent blocked off both times in sixth gear on a straightaway motor seized up learned my lesson of runnin lean

Hey guys, running 32:1, 270 main. This straight stretch I spoke of is about 1/4 mile, bike did not even go into sixth gear. Only at idle I could hear a funky metal clicking kinda sound. Others told me I am crazy. PSI was great, did not hear "noise" under power, quad was working awesome untill next time out all hell broke loose. It is better to ride than push.

yeh man it was piston slap, it happens at idle most of the time, trust me ive blown up more blasters than you can count..lol tear it down and il bet the cylinder will be scratched up as the piston also, and the rings will be froze in the piston due to high heat

All I know is that I can't hear the best and I was the only one who could here it! It had 130 psi right before it went. You are right the cylinder is junk also the head needs work to be usable again. The rings are melted to the piston But the rod bearing is really sloppy now. One of the thrust washers on the crank broke and large pieces of it went for the up and down ride with the piston. You guys are going to love this- I let a buddy ride the wife's quad and it went bango. I have enough parts around to put something togather for her for a ride this Wk end. What I learned is that a bumbed buddy is better than a pissed wife!!!

ok i did a compression test it was a lil over 130 is that good ? i cannot figure out why my engin is so noisy it runs great
