hey guys, i am thinking of selling my blasty and buyin a raptor 660 i kinda got bored with the blaster i know its because i didn't mod it but the way i see it is why send lots on moding it when you can buy something else you'd prefer and has way more power , i will get another blaster sometime next year as i really think there fun bikes :) but i kinda want a 4 stroke as i never have money and cant really afored oil and gas ( i pay for it myself! ) and i get around €10 every 2 weeks which aint alot! so please dont bash me for this lol but rappys i know the 01's had really bad tranny probs but even if its a 01 is it cheep (its the cheepst i'v ever seen for sale in ireland ) but if i do sell my blasty and buy it what do i need to look out for? are they light on petrol ? thats it anyway >> thanks :( yamaha raptor 660 1500 for sale in Offaly: €1,500 - DoneDeal.ie

very reare to see a 660 beat a 200 lol but what can i check apart from compression to tell hat the motors good ? thanks guys :D

Only experience I've had with one had issues with dirt getting into carbs. Almost had to clean them out daily. Wasn't simple to remove the carbs either. I wouldn't buy a 660 I would save up for a 700. I've got a 07 700 with no issues.

My .02, i wouldnt get one. I know too many people with them and they have is problems. Ive seen them go through gaskets like it their job (3 different machines with 3 different owners all blew some sort of major gasket this summer all needed a full rebuild.) And i think they are top heavy and handle like tanks but then again im used to the blaster. Anywho i would look for a diff machine or at least a super clean unfucked with 660. As for the gear thing, ask for a test ride

ok, i owned two 01 and an 03.
the 01 have a big gap from 1st to 2nd.
i blew the tranny in one of the 01s. when they blow, it locks up the tranny.
usually you cant tell till it happens. shift it through the gears, if it is slightly hard to shift, into 2nd or to 3rd, your second is f*cked.
the one way clutch is designed to go out. it was around $300 for that.
i never had any gasket issue with mine, and i rode mine harder than most.
one of them, the nut on a valve came loose. this caused major problems. it ripped my timing chain in half, bent the valve, the rocker and messed up the piston. this wasn't cheap to fix nor easy.
i knew how to ride mine, they are a little top heavy, they will wheelie super easy (ask my fat friend and my cousin, both flipped it) they are torque monster, if you stall it while go slow in 1st, you might go over the handlebars.
if you get it, i would suggest making it idle somewhat high so it doesn't stall.
changing oil on them is a biotch, like you drain it, put in a quart of oil, start it and let it run for a while then put in more.

I love my 660 to be honest.. I ride it more than my 450 in the super rough stuff.. anything not so hardcore I run my 450 and it just destroys sh*t... the 660 is my trail beast... anything really rugged I'll try my 660 on it :D I have enough traction with the mudlites that I can usually build momentum for smaller climbs even the bouncy kind usually... but I have enough power to spin the tires I think alot of 2 strokes would have a hard time (I'm non geared) to spin mudlite 22"s. this thing even with stock gearing wheelies with the 22"s... it's awesome lol

i owned the raptors for about a year each. i would suggest never getting a 01 660. i love the big bore engines, they are a blast to ride. but i would get a 700r before i ever get a 660. the 700 is so much better imo.

I hear the 700s are nicer. but I don't like the EFI sometimes with my 450 so I don't think I would like it on the 700 either lol.

depends, sometimes I like my efi, sometimes I prefer carbs for ease of tuning. wanna add anything, just jet it... efi tuning requires a programmer and knowledge of how to use it properly... if you run an auto tune kit no big but that's MORE money.. dyno tuning is optimal imo for efi. I suppose carbs too I guess... I don't have enough money atm for that kind of build to require a dyno tuned bike so haven't really looked into it I suppose lol.

Let the sh*t talkers start talking garbage...

Get it, and that raptor is not an 01. Its an 03. Youll love it for sure. Ive had mine for 2 years now and love it! Recently i just found out i need a new bearing in the bottom end which cost me $45! Not bad at all. I dont get where any of these people say garbage about gaskets blowing all the time? or getting dirt in your carbs? Ive never had a problem with mine.

how can you tell its a 03? i will just need to sell my blasty first lol and they seem to sell alot quicker if they have fmf silencers lol
