race gas

I agree about only using race fuel if you need to due to compression because it will hurt your performance if not required. But, I have to disagree on race fuel causing an engine to overheat. Octane slows the burn of the fuel and creates less heat. The exception may be oxygenated race fuels. As far as avgas is concerned, I have to disagree again. I have used 100ll in several applications with no negative side effects. Including a couple of turbocharged 2 strokes and an MX banshee that is run very hard weekly and was blueprinted for 104 octane. Avgas is FAA approved, planes run at all elevations from sea level to 30000 feet and last time I checked the FAA doesn't take lightly to them falling out of the air:)

my bike is running on 87 pump gas with yamalube 2r, Mixed 40:1, runs ok but i need 93...it pings a little a idle...I didnt realize that with 6.6:1 compression would use premium..even the manual says to use premium gas...this is my first bike and im still on my first 5gallons of gas..im almost out so it looks like its time to go to QuickTrip. :) get the good stuff....

I agree with wildcard .. the cylinder is going to get its main heat(i know friction is there too) and thermal expansion by the explosian of the fuel in the head ,now if the slower burning *race gas CANT be efficently compressed and exploded due to say low static compression ,retarded igntion timing ,high dome volume wide squish clearance gap etc.. then it should not create an advancement of heat ,instead the engine will load up ,foul plugs ,maybe get blubberly should basicly perform like its running very rich and eventually the unburned emulsifed fuel will be sent out the exhaust port.
