So I have almost all of the chassis mods that I had planned in order now and I am going to pull the motor so I can paint everything. While it is out I have a couple motor mods to do. The way it sits right now the only mods I know for sure that it has are FMF Fatty/Powercore2, K&N Filter (no lid now due to shock clearance), and Oil Injection Block-off. Other mods that I have ready to install are Ken Oconner Redesigned Head and Boyesen Dual Stage Carbon Reeds. Really not planning on any other motor mods anytime soon but I am going to get rid of the TORS which brings me to my questions. Looking at prices of cap kits I am thinking that I might just try to find a 28mm from a YZ85. Would this carb be a good match for what I have? Carbs have always scared the hell out of me and I am a real noob with them so please excuse the questions if they seem dumb. If I do change to another carb, what throttle cable will I use? Will a Blaster cable for TORS delete kit work or the YZ cable? Next question is where should I start with jetting on this carb with the mods I have and am doing? Thanks in advance. I:I

A pwk 28 is an excellent upgrade even for a stock blaster. The stock 26mm mikuni is small from the factory so you shouldn't have a problem with a 28mm.

You would use the blaster cable with the Tors delete. I'm running a 30mm OKO (which is a PWK28 knockoff) and that's the cable I'm running.

The PE carburetor is the extremely old design that's used as the "scooter" carburetor now. It's a better design for a 4 stroke engine or a scooter which doesn't change RPM's as fast as the blaster.

Go for the pwk28. It's a 2 stroke carburetor designed from the ground up. You'll be very happy with the results.

brianfulcher is having the "scooter" carb problem right now and his solution was to buy a bonafide keihin PWK28. If you're unsure of what you're doing and can't afford to take a risk on your jetting, you should buy a prejetted aftermarket PWK28 (or similar) to run. It would take all of the guesswork out by giving a GOOD headstart and doesn't really run too much more than buying an OKO (or a used carburetor off of who knows what).

I bought an OKO 30mm because I don't mind tinkering (and tinkering I did....) but if that's not for you, purchase one new and get the place that sells it to setup it right for you.

i have a q of my own. im thinking of getting the 28mm too but would i need to get a different setup air filter? or would i still be able to use my current airbox with k&n? also, the throttle cap and everything would go on fine right (tores removed)? and i would have to rejet? (sry me noobie too!)

The inlet side of the carburetor is larger than the factory carburetor. Most people cut the factory air tube back about 5" and then stick a piece of tubing into the rubber and clamp it and then get a rubber adapter from the tubing to the carburetor inlet.

If you want to keep the thumb throttle, you can order the motion pro throttle cable for tors delete and use the PWK 28 with that. You will have to do the final jetting on the quad you're using it on, always, no matter what.
