So here is my completed Tri-z engine and swingarm into a blaster conversion. From the start i was going to do a build up thread but I ended up being too busy going full steam ahead. The swingarm fit almost without modification but a completely new shock mount had to be made and the old one removed for aircleaner clearance. I also used to Tri-z pipe since i didn't want any mismatch in parts that could result in poor performance. I could have had a custom pipe made but since my budget was almost zero i had to use the Tri-z pipe, to do this i had to cut part of the frame and build plates around the pipe. To reconnect to the bottom rail i made billet removable bars that also act as front motor mounts. Anyway there is a lot more to it if anyone wants to know more. A lot more to it than i expected, but i feel happy with the end result. I also took pics along the way if people want to see them.

Feels like quite a bit more power, and quite a bit more vibrations. But i am young ill take more power any day. I figure the tri-z is about 30 hp, maybe a little more or less, so that is almost twice the power. It feels about 1.5 times as far as i can tell, but i haven't ridden it much. I am going to the dunes tomorrow so we will see how fast it is and if i can keep all the nuts and bolts in it!

dude, sicc swap, tri z's are beasts. thats funny you did that cuz there was a clean running tri z for 600 bucks on craigslist and i thought about trying to do that swap..

Nice build! I:I That motor looks so small it makes the blaster look big. Is that a Tri-Z pipe? Looks like the rear shock took some thought.
Again, congrats on workin through the problems and comin up with a nice ride. Satisfaction & Horsepower trumps a little vibration. :D

Did you beef up the motor too or just swap it? Awesome water cooled conversion!
How do you like the rear suspension & motor vs the blaster setup? +Rep!!!

Every one gives me crap about the bumper, some day i will make one. Ya that is a DG pipe for the Tri-z, you probably can't tell but i had to modify it to make the jigsaw puzzle fit. The shock mout and suspension in general was what worried me the most. It seems to have turned out fine, with ride height and such, even though this is my first conversion. That brings me a new question about shocks, i am wondering if a 660/700 raptor shock has more stroke than the banshee shock i am running now. Dispite all i did you ensure i got all the travel out this shock, i only ended up with a little over 7" of travel. i am thinking that a banshee shock on a banshee is possitioned closer to the pivot point and so this amount of stroke equals more travel than i am getting. Someone let me know if i should start a new tread on the suspension side, or keep it here as it may only be relavent to this setup.

Well i did get to ride it in the dunes this weekend. I had a few issues that i did expect, suck as bolts and nuts vibrating off. But all in all the Quad-z preformed well. Oddly what i was most pleased with wasn't the engine, but was the new suspension. It preformed even better than i expected, and i don't think i have the shock setup well since i didn't want to slow everyone down fiddling with so much. I drag race a friends yfz and i still don't have a chance, but i figure i cut the gap in half. Top speed incresed alot and now matches the yfz, and it was limited by rpm and not power. It is kind of funny though this motor is so pipey that when i short shifted 5th, by just a just a fraction, it was out of the power band in 6th and bogged. So i down shifted and pulled 5th a little longer, then it happly pulled 6th to the top speed.

Hey BilletBlaster, are those your leftover parts on CL? If so you're just down the coast a bit. Have to get together at Winchester or Florence & test these 250 Blasters :)

one thing to note the triz has a very archaic port design ..not much better than a blaster in fact some could argue its even worse with its one sided boysen port and large single window intake design ,but with the right port layout it will pull much harder and longer in the curve ,another downfall is the exhaust pipe ,their pipe selection is nearly nonexistant and cutting apart one makes it even worse as this will surely alter the powerband .on a 2stroke the pipe does half the work. do some research as you can use hopup parts off a IT a WR and a YZ for better performance

Ah Ha I found it! I've been looking for this thread,
this is my Son Tonys Quad I aquired it since he's gone in the army,
so Im gonna use it a little and fix it up some so when Tony come back to his Hometown he can have something to ride.
Oh and I fabbed up a bumper before taking it to Dunefest I may be a redneck but even I have limits.....
LOL
