Hey all,
I recently bought a 2001 Yamaha Blaster which was in fairly decent shape. The ATV was running fine right until a few days back when i started it and white smoke appeared to be coming out of the exhaust. Now it won't stop and I'm quite worried. I read online that it might be the crank case seal or might be due to the ATV being stored for a while and not being used(which it was for a month).

Should i just do some general maintenance like Oil, plug and Filter(which are in poor state) and hope that it would go away once i ride it or go ahead and change the crank sealed anyway?

If i have to change the crank seals, how difficult would it be and how exactly do i go about it (pictures of videos would be great)? I am 15 years old but mechanically inclined and may be able to take up the task.

ik the subject has been talked about many times but i was unable to find info on actually changing the crank seal.

First answer this... How long was the blaster stored? The reason I ask, is because the two stroke oil that is mixed with the fuel tends to sit in the pipe a bit after use. I started my banshee just yesterday, and it smoked a bit... last started it about 5 weeks ago, but after it warmed up and I went for a short 200 yard ride, It burned clean. Crank seals are not hard to change and can be done without splitting the case. Is your transmission fluid level getting low? If so, that could mean a bad seal on the clutch side. Before any disassembly, you need to do a leak down test on that engine to see where your issue is if there is one.

I bought the blaster last week from a used dealer and from my understanding, the quad wasn't started for 4-8 weeks.

I'm will get the leak test done as well as keep an eye on the oil level.

I did start it a couple of times last week and it seemed fine, it started smoking sometime this week. I've let the quad idle and I took it for short ride as well but still didn't seem to solve the issue.

UPDATE:
I have changed the oil and still no progress, still smokes. The only 2 causes that i could possibly blame it on is that i have premixed oil with my gas when my oil injector might be working, (the dealer told me to premix) or the Reeds. I have already ordered a Reeds kit online.

I have been running 20:1 premix on my bike, could that be the reason as to why its smoking? I think the oil injector is still functional as well.

20 to 1 is a bit strong for premix, even if the auto oiler is removed. Unless it causes the plug to foul, it won't hurt anything, but from experience running 24:1 I will smoke quite a bit, especially if idled or run easy for any period of time. Even when mixed at the most common rate of 32:1 an engine can/will load up, which is when reduced flow in the engine (such as when idling) allows excess amounts of oil to fall out of the mixture, and settle pretty much everywhere, it is often quite necessary to rev the motor a little to help stir the excess oil up and back into the mix, also the first couple times you open it up, it will burn off much of the excess oil in a plume of white smoke that can be up to 20 or 30 feet long and quite heavy, particularly if you are oil rich or fuel/oil rich.

If everything else about the motor seems good, I would make sure that it was getting oil from only one source (mix or injector), it couldn't hurt to do leak down and compression tests, while your at it. Once you have done you best to assure the motor is mechanically sound, and jetted correctly, take it out and run it, get it up on the pipe and go through a few gears, if it's just running oil rich and/or loaded up it should clear out and the smoke clear up somewhere between 5th gear and top speed.

If the injection is working and you are also premixing at 20:1 the engine is getting twice as much oil that it requires.

You will also be running with an incorrect air fuel ratio as mixing at 20:1 requires a jetting change of at least 2 sizes of main jet richer.

You must not run the injection and premix at the same time, it is either one or the other.
